Changed computers

Post by Ebor337 » 10 Jul 2011 20:25

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've been on here but have now changed laptops. I have reinstalled FH and got my tree loaded up no problems. I have also copied and pasted the whole of my family history stuff acrross to my new PC.

However, I have lost the images of all my sources. I've also lost all of my census and BMD flags.

Can I get these back? Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Lee

How did you move your media?

Have you checked the Work With External File Links to repair your links?

Are you using a Project?

Your Flags are probably there, but I suspect you have lost the icons on your diagrams, either just add them back in (see
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... _and_icons ) or on your old computer save your diagram as a custom diagram type and export and import it.

See
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... e_settings
for more information.

I just moved my medaa via a USB stick, it's now all gone a bit wrong. This is what my Work With External File Links looks like:

Can i re-set it somehow?

Yes, I am using a project.

Thanks, my flags are still there. I just have to re-assign them then, like you have suggested. Thanks.

If you were NOT using Projects with relative Multimedia paths, then the paths would be absolute, and switching from Windows XP to Windows 7 the 'My Documents' path has significantly changed.
However, as Jane says using Tools > Work with External File Links will allow you to redefine them.

OK, compare your Work with External Files window with your Windows Explorer window for the same folders/files.

Then use the Re-Map button to align the Work with External Files folders with Windows Explorer.
It recommended you choose Re-map within Project Data Folder.

Thanks so much for trying to help me, but I'm lost. :(

In Windows explorer, my path to the images is:

C:UsersLouiseDocumentsFamily Historian ProjectsCensus

This is mirrored in the Work With External File Links but then it goes a bit crazy, as this screenshot shows: http://imgur.com/6GLfR

Not sure how to chaneg that. :(

I have figured it out. Thank you so much to you Jane, and to you Tatewise. I really appreciate it. :)

Now just going to sort out my flags then I can go to bed with a clear mind!
