Annoying error message
I've getting back to grips with FH tonight, but I'm encountering a persistant problem. Everytime I try to use Gedcom Census to import ancestors, I keep getting this error message, which then seems to mess up my entire file, unlinkig brothers/sisters etc and takign icons away from the census flags.
Can anyone help? I've delete the small bit I've done so can start afresh tomorrow.

Lines marked 'EXCLUDED:' indicate data which has not
been loaded, and explain why it wasn't loaded.
Indented lines marked 'EXCLUDED BRANCH LINE:' indicate
data lines which are not necessarily invalid in
themselves but which have had to be excluded as a
consequence of excluding other lines.
Lines marked 'INFO ONLY:' indicate data that has
been successfully loaded, but where special action
was needed to load it (e.g. GEDCOM errors detected
and automatically corrected by Family Historian).

This is a GEDCOM Census problem, your flag names are too long.
Try using Ancestral Sources, which has replaced GedCom Census

Ah right, ok, thank you.
Where can I find AS? It's the first I've heard of it. [confused]

Apologies for that - it was a problem in an early version of Gedcom Census to do with flags. If you continue to have problems (which is quite likely) please feel free to email the file to me (Nick at ancestralsources dot com) and I'll fix the problem for you and email you the file back.
Best wishes

Thanks for your reply Nick, I didn't realise GC had been superceded though, will using Ancestral Sources rectify the problem?
Thanks again.

No it won't.
You currently have some flags in your file that are the wrong length. When I first implemented support for flags a few years ago I didn't realise there was a quite short maximum length for the 'flag tag' - Flags were an invention of Calico Pie and and this wasn't documented. Once people reported problems I contacted Calico and they explained how they worked and it was fixed shortly afterwards. However, it sounds like you created these flags in the previous version.
Anyway I'm very happy to fix the problem for you in your file. Once fixed Ancestral Sources and Family Historian should work quite happily with your file.
Alternatively there is a change that if you ignore the error and just save the file in Family Historian it will go away!

Thank-you Nick.
How would you suggest the best way forward is? I don't actually have any flags in my file at the moment, as I am currently reconstructing my tree from scractch after a full system crash, so the world is my oyster (sort of!).

If you don't have any flags then it is easy: you can make sure (in FH) by going to Tools->'Work with named lists and flags' and choose in turn any flags in the drop down list and select option 3 to clear the flag from all individuals. Once you've done this to each flag, save your file and then next time you open it you should find all the flags have gone.
Then just proceed with using Ancestral Sources rather like you have used Gedcom Census in the past.
