Remember last record on startup ?

Post by gbrowne » 04 Feb 2010 10:59

I have looked for this but can't find it.

Is there an option that allows FH to start up focussed on the last person you were working on? (preferably the last view - though I can see this would be tricky)

This would save such a lot of time, especially when entering a lot of GedcomCensus data, where you have to reload the GEDCOM into FH every time you save a source record.

Another useful -and easy to implement- feature would be to have the option to be warned whenever you save a record under 'Auto Source Citation'.

Cheers,
Geoff.

The first one is on the Wish list Number 255

I think the latter one would drive me mad as I often put lots of information in from a single source.

Ah, ok thanks. Thats a shame because it would be SO useful.

As to the latter, I only said 'the option to be warned'. I know people who have turned it on and forgotten and ended up with loads of wrong citations. If it annoyed you you could leave the warning turned off :)

Thanks for the reply anyway,

Cheers,
Geoff.

If the 'reminder' that auto-source-citation is on were a little more prominent, it might serve the purpose.

I have sometimes used a Named List called 'where I left off' -- adding the person to the list, and leaving notes about what I had planned to do next.

At other times, when I have been working on the same family for an extended session (such as working with Gedcom Census, and then adding other info from the same censuses which GC does not record), I have set the person I was working on to the root person. One can then use 'go to file root' to be in the right place.

I too have shot myself in the foot with the auto source citation, and like Helen, would like the reminder that it is on to be more prominent. I still think it is a wonderful feature, though.

One other way is to use the 'Last updated ....' standard queries. This works so long as you have actually been doing some changes to the records. If you've just been viewing then this doesn't work.

And finally... maybe!

Can I add my tuppence-worth?

If you click on the Updated column of the Records Window, your records will be shown in date order as you have worked on them, with the last accessed and saved record being shown at the top of the list.

Similar to jmurphy (Jan), if I have a number of interlinked records to work on I use the date order list to generate a Last Used Named List.
