Running V4 on a Netbook
Has anyone run FH4 on a Netbook ?
I have a Samsung N120 with 1Gig ram which 'freezes' if I try to look at Diagrams - the programme itself runs fine, I can look at all the lists, add new data, run queries but diagrams and charts are a problem. Wondered if this might be a memeory limitation. The operating system is XP home which must be grabing a chunk of that 1 Gig.
Any comments or suggestions appreciated

Try turning pictures off on the diagrams to see if that helps also try setting the auto-thumbnail option off on the Advanced Tab of Preferences on the Tools menu. If you don't see the option, make sure you have version 4.0.2 installed.

Running V4 on a Netbook
Hi Jane
Thanks for your suggestions but I'm not using pictures or thumbnails - some of the family groups are very large and I usually go for 'all relatives'. I'm going to experiment with the options to see if I can restrict the view to a few generations around the person of interest

It's probably not the memory then, more likely just the fact that Netbooks in generally have low power processors, which in some cases run slower when off the mains so experiment with plugging it in to see if it runs faster.

Since the problem is to do with diagrams I would suspect that the graphics capabilities of your netbook is the cause of your problem. The other thing that affects the diagrams in FH is which printer drivers are installed. I think that FH cannot display diagrams if no printer is installed though I think I am wrong about this, and FH4 installs it's own printer driver (the PDF one) so I'm not sure its the printer issue here.

I got an Acer netbook for Christmas, but with a dual-core AMD procesor, and not the Atom processor usually used, so it's quite a high spec one. It's running Windows 7. It doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, but I had FH3 and the FH4 upgrade installed within half an hour of opening the box over my home network without any problem at all, and so far it runs fine. It's not blisteringly fast, but still very usable. It can display my all relatives tree (some 8000+ people) and the multimedia images in the project folder without any problems.
Forgot to add, there's no printer installed as yet on the netbook, so display problems may be more to do with the natbook graphics capabilities rather than the printer.

Another thing to try, is to turn off duplicate checking and also to open up the task manager to see if the program is 'processor bound'.
