What's the best way of recording a period of yrs?

Post by bodger99 » 23 Apr 2004 18:20

My late father, like millions of others, served in WW2 for a few years. I'd like to put this in fH somewhere. What's the best way that people have found to enter something like this - dealing with it as an event or attribute, by making a note, or maybe dealing with it some other way?

TIA

I would put the information either as an occupation, or a custom event for Military service.

Personally I use Occupation, you can add a date range field to that, you may find it easiest to use the date helper, so you can put for example a range such as
from 25 May 1880 to 8 December 1886

or in your case 'from 1939 to 1945'
I then add in all the other information either as notes on the occupation or as health events for example
health shot in leg
date 1883
place India
note 20 days in hospital
