I've been thinking for a long time whether I ought to upgrade to 4 (I've been with 3 all the way, and 2 before that), but would like to know whether all my 'customizations' will transfer successfully.
I'm thinking in particular of my custom text scheme, in which the details on the diagram labels (e.g. born, died, alternative name etc.) are displayed in a language other than English. Achieving this took quite a bit of work (and still isn't perfect) and I'd like to be sure that custom text schemes will be exported from v3 to v4 without problems.
Can anyone reassure me on this?

As long as you have named your custom text schemes with new names and have not customised the standard ones they will be preserved.
If you have not done this then simply use the Clone option to create custom versions of them.
In addition you can use the export option on FH to export the schemes outside of the FH system.
Any custom items are retained, but customisation of standard items may be lost. So any diagram formatting should be saved as custom diagram types before upgrading.
