Don't want to seem a grump, but ...
When I set up my project in v.4 I let FH copy all my files into the Media directory as recommended (something I'm now regretting, but that's another story). It seems to have set up all the file links with an incomplete path starting at the Media sub-directory. When I try to edit a file link the program doesn't take me straight to the relevant directory but to the last directory used instead. If I then navigate to the correct directory and click on the correct file the link changes to one with the full path and I can then subsequently go straight to the correct directory when editing.

The short media folder is simply to make it easier to move projects around. The folder opening will be one for Calico to address.
It did not move the media it copied it so if you want to go back to using the GEDCOM version rather than the project you can. Just remember to redo any changes.
Personally I like the Project structure, but FH does not enforce it.

I should also add that if I then go into the work with file links dialogue, files in the same directory appear in one of two separate directories depending on whether the link has been edited, either C:......Media... or Project Data FolderMedia...
I suppose that the dialogue will at least make it easy to recombine the files under whichever path I choose, but it does all seem a bit strange.
It also seems to mean that even if you do use the project structure as soon as you try to add or edit any links FH will not see them as part of the abbreviated project directory.

I think the idea with projects was to avoid people having to manually edit the file links. Using the Insert media and not really editing. I agree the button for the folder needs sorting and I am sure Calico will look at the issue when then can.

Another multimedia issue
I've been meaning to post something about this all week...
I agree it does seem to get a bit confusing with some file info held with the short relative path and others with a full path. I'd like to see Family Historian automatically changing full paths to relative paths if the item being referenced is within the Media folder (sorry I'm at work at the moment so can't check but I'm pretty sure it doesn't do this!)
I realised a few days ago that this will cause an issue for Gedcom Census as any images added by GC will be recorded using the full path even if the rest of the images are relative paths. Also any existing images being link in GC won't show a preview as GC doesn't understand the shortened path. I don't think this will cause any major issues and will just involve some work with the 'Work with External File Links' dialogue if a project is being moved.
Another issue, which I emailed Calico about, could be if someone is exporting their GEDCOM for use by someone with an earlier version of Family Historian as it just doesn't understand the relative file paths and the 'Work with External File Links' in version 3 can't fix them either. I think the only solution would be a search and replace in a text editor. I think there needs to be an option to save relative file paths as full file paths on the 'Export' dialogue.
Embarrasingly I've been part of the beta testing group but only spotted that relative paths were being used last weekend, a bit late to point any of this out before release!
