I've been compiling a chart of the descendants of the electress Sophia using Family Historian version 3.0 and have now started analysing the data using queries and reports
If I use the reports option I can get an Outline report of the descendants in the order I want but I dont seem to be able to customise what is displayed as much as I would like to.
However If I use Queries I can use the descendent query as a starting point and then customise it to include any of the fields I want and in diferent formats. However the order is dependent on which fields I select to include.
What I really would like to be able to do is to generate queries but have the results in the same order as they appear in the outline descendents report.
can this be done

Customising Reports and queries
If you add a column for the Ahnentafel number I think this will put them in the correct order? You can hide the column and just use it for sorting.
eg.
=AhnentafelNumber(%INDI%,['Starting Person'],1)
eg.
=AhnentafelNumber(%INDI%,['Starting Person'],1)

Customising Reports and queries
Thanks for the reply Jane.
Not sure that its Ahnentafel number I need because I thought that started with the root person being numer 1 and then their parents being 2 and 3 and grandparents being 4,5,6 and 7
I want to go in the other direction.
so I want the parameter that gives the numbers used in descendant reports.Ie.
1.
1.1
1.2
1.2.1
1.2.2
etc.
any idea what that is called?
I think I actualy have a problem because this number is going to be unique for an individual.
Ive just run a report showing the first 4 generations of descendants.
Because two of the Electresses Grand childrem married each other their offspring are listed twice. Once as descendents of their Father, and again as a descendent of their mother. Each time they have a different descendent number.
That probably explains why my descendent reports are motre than 2000 pages long

I suspect you could use the relation code to do this with a few columns.
So if you sort by Generation and sub-sort family ID you would get the generations in family groups. I don't think you can get the number used by the descendant report and I don't remember any one wanting it.
This is not true the order is dependant on the fields you select to sort by.However the order is dependent on which fields I select to include.
