Importing GEDCOM from Generations
I'm using FH 2.2 demo version and I really like it. However, before I decide to buy I want to know that I can convert my Generations data into FH. I have encountered the following problems with the GEDCOM exported from Generations :-
1. Addresses not imported;
2. Images not imported;
3. Sources imported incorrectly.
What do I need to do for a sucessful conversion because I obviously do not want to enter addresses and sources again?

I have now purchased FH 2.1 and upgraded to 2.2 because I was just so impressed with everything about FH.
However, I still have problems with importing Addresses, Images and Sources from my Generations data (I wish to uninstall Generations ASAP but would ideally like to transfer over everything as smoothly as possible).
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried using the Generations Fix
http://www.taubman.org.uk/gedcom/index.html
It may sort some of the problems.
Generations allows people to define their own GEDCOM tags which means there can be different problems with each persons files. If the program does not help you can contact me and I will try and help.

Thanks Jane,
I tried it but it still leaves a lot of TAGS unprocessed. I haven't defined any TAGS myself in Generations, it just seems that some fields you can use are not GEDCOM-standard.
Please can I send the GED file to you for your perusal, when you have the time?

Not a problem, it might be a while as I have visitors staying for the next week.

Importing GEDCOM from Generations
I have the same problem and it's the images that I need to port across from Generations as I don't want to go through them all again.
I found that going importing the Generations file into a demo version of Master Genealogist, then exporting the Gedcom and opening that in FH got most of the information over. Anyone else tried this convoluted method?

Simon, I don't think generations exports the photographs [frown]
Personally I would suggest reattaching the photographs any way as the FH photo features work in a different way, in that you do not need to produce 'cutout' faces for charts etc. Also because the photos are not embeded you can work with much larger photographs. You may find the How To attach photograph animation in the Links section worth a view if you have not already done so.

Importing GEDCOM from Generations
Thanks Jane. I did manage to get some photos across by importing first into Master Genealogist, exporting GEDCOM and then opening in FH but it didn't work in all cases, especially if there was more that one linked photo etc.
I guess I'll have to work out how many people with photo's I have and go through by hand when I get a spare day or so!
Thanks
