Using Lists

Post by smol » 25 Apr 2007 17:02

I have a list named 'To do at Kew' with various people + items that I wish to research about them. It works fine.
I now wish to move one of these people + all the notes I have made about the research to another list such as 'Work in progress'.
Do I have to type all the info again in the new list or is there an easier way ?
I tried Paste & copy but could not get it to work.

I don't think you can do that, but you could just add the person to the other list, select all the text in the note and use CTRL-C and CTRL-V to paste the note to the new list.

Jane
That is what I tried to do.
Highlighted the note.
Edit, Copy as text.
Went to the new list
Highlighted the person.
Clicked on to the note section
Edit Paste - but the paste is greyed out
I must have missed something simple - but what ?
Sorry to be a pain !

You need to select the person to copy the note to in the new list.

So
Select old list
select person
select and copy note text
select new list
select person in new list
select note field
and paste

Sorry but this is what I have tried to do, but the paste option is greyed out.
It seems to be a straight forward copy & paste procedure, but I cannot get it to work.

The only way I could get the note greyed out was not to select the person on the TO list after I switched to the TO list.

It is not the note section that is greyed out.
It is the
Edit/ Paste option. It will not let me do the paste bit.
Very frustrating, but never mind I shall just have to leave this man on the Kew list.

Once I click on the person and then on the note bit, the paste becomes active.

It doesn't for me. No matter what I do the paste option is always inactive.
Thanks for trying to help.

I think the issue here (and it may be a bug), is that when you select the text in the note, you can't use the Edit->Copy as it will take a copy of the selected person, rather than the note.

Instead, when you select the note either right-click on the note and select copy from there, or use the standard shortcut for Copy which is Ctrl+C. When you want to paste the text in you either need to right-click and select Paste or use Ctrl+V.

I think this will solve the problem.

Nick
Many thanks for that, both versions worked just fine. I thought I should be able to do this.
Jane - Apologies to you as you also suggested the Control+C method, but as that came up on the Edit menu against Copy and Control V against Paste, I just continued to try that and did not think of trying it on its own.
Problem solved.
