Places/Addresses/Residence

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can someone enlighten me as to the proper usage of places/addresses/residence?  At the moment, I am entering everything as a place and it seems to come up okay on reports.
The residence event/attribute has a residence field and ALSO an address field?????  What is the purpose of the address field, as I would already have entered this in 'residence'?
For other events/attributes there are both place and address fields, so I'm not sure what the intention is there, unless it's an 'either/or' option, i.e. if you have a full address, or just a place.[confused]

Remember than Family historian supports all the gedcom fields. This means there are often several ways of doing things.

Personally, I use residence when I have an address which does not tie to an event. For instance, my Grandmother moved to a new address when my Grandfather died.

The way I use Place and address fields off of an event is such that.
For a marriage the Place would be
Kingsbury Episcopi, Somerset,England but in the address I would put
St Martins Parish Church, Kingsbury Episcopi, Nr Martock, Somerset.

This way the Place is kept fairly short and where lots of events happened in the same place they all look the same.
