Hi, Another new user needing advise.
When entering details from mine and siblings certificates do I link each of us as a source to my mothers name aswell as her own birth certificate?. Also my mother was resident at an address from birth through marriage and my birth, would I set up a residence covering the whole period fo her and then linking each source to it, or do I do a seperate residence for each specific date ie her birth, marriage and my birth.
Thanks[confused]

Birth Certificates
I wouldn't link all childrens birth certificates to the mothers name. I tend to use just one of the certificates, when I use it to enter the Mothers maiden name.
Obviously the child will be linked to the certificate and to the mother so someone reviewing your information will be able to see the reasoning with out 'overloading' the sources.
Personally I would have one residence for the date range.

Like Jane, I record a birth certificate as the source for the mother's name at the time I prove the link (i.e the first time). I don't bother for subsequent offspring unless there's a reason to, such as where a child was born illegitimate and registered with one surname, but was always known by the surname of (and perhaps adopted by) the mother's later husband.
As for Residence events, I tend to follow the thought process at the time. If I think 'Ah, so that's where they were', then I'll add a new event. If I either don't think of it [wink] or I think 'Ok, still there' then I don't.
At the end of the day, you need to enter enough information to document what you've found and where you found it. As you'll soon find out there's many, many ways of achieving this.

Jane, Graham thanks for your advise, knowing me this could be the first of many questions.
