Hi
I'm a new user of FH and one of the main reasons for choosing it was the picture functionality. However, I have a big problem. All my picture links have been exported from the previous program I was using in gedcom fields. Is there any quick way to get them out of the fields into proper records or do I have to go through them one by one?
Thanks
Louise

I presume you mean as embeded objects. I do not have any knowledge of a program to convert them. Does your previous program have an option to convert them to external files?
I will ask on the phpgedview site and see in anyone there knows of a program to externalise the links.

You can't simply convert fields to records. You're probably best off re-inserting all the pictures. F.H. allows you to insert all the pictures in any given folder in one, so its not as bad as it sounds. You would still have to link the people in the photos to their record, but you would probably want to do that anyway so that you can link them to their face. The ability to do this is a very useful feature of F.H. I don't know any other app. that lets you do that.
If you decide to do this, take a backup before you start, and clear out all the existing picture fields that you don't want.
You said you have pictures stored as field. That is perfectly possible in F.H. but unusual. We don't recommend it and only support it because GEDCOM does. You can't link to faces if the picture is stored as a field, for example. If you wrote a custom query to select these fields, you could select them all and delete them all in one go (if they were in 3 different field types you would need one column for each field type). See Chapter 12 of the User Manual for how to write Custom Queries, and see the section 'Delete Multiple Fields' in Chapter 11 for how you can use a query to delete fields throughout a file.
Incidentally, you might want to make sure you are on version 2.1.8 if you are inserting large number of pictures from a folder. Version 2.1.6 had a problem inserting large numbers of pictures at the same time.
