That is true, but adds an extra step to unpack the downloaded zip file, that some users appear to find difficult to cope with.

problem with uploaded census templates

I think I have increased the limit.

I have been thinking about moving the downloads into the Knowledge base, as it has a much better upload manager and is more flexible in the maintenance of the pages.

Mike has been doing sterling work adding new downloads to the KB so it would not be too bad to do.

What do you think?

Good idea Jane, but note the following.

(1) Regarding  Home > Downloads > Add Downloads dialogue:
Although the Upload limit may have increased, the dialogue still says (1500 characters max.)
When the limit is exceeded is there a better indication than the ! - window illustrated by the Bill Henshaw (02/28/12 - 15:33:25) posting above?

(2) Regarding Knowledge Base > Media Files dialogue:
The Select files link needs to be more prominent (I think it was in the previous version).
Each upload file status always says Failed even when it is OK.
I am not keen on the FHUG Toolbar > News > Family Historian Wiki listing every single file upload.

If downloads were in the Knowledge Base, would we still get a download count displayed?

A further point regarding the Knowledge Base > Media Files dialogue has come to light with my Backup and Restore FH Settings Beta Test Plugin.

The Media Filenames should support standard Windows Filenames including both upper & lower case letters and space characters.
I believe the current Main Menu Downloads section supports these standard Windows Filenames.
Users would not appreciate having to name Plugins and AS Templates, etc, with all lower case letters and underscores.

Downloads, even the old ones have always used _ in place of spaces.

If I use Dokuwiki to store things (which is easier) it will change the names to lowercase (I might be able to tweak them at download though).

I have put on a new theme so the media window should work better in the Knowledge base now.

The Select files... and Upload buttons are a bit more prominent.
The upload file status no longer says Failed when it is OK.

How will all the existing Main Menu Downloads that I have put in the KB FHUG Downloads be handled in future?
Most of them rely on Windows Filename upper & lower case letters and spaces to have acceptable names for each Query, Report Type, Diagram Type, etc.
Will they all have to become ZIP files with lower case names, in order to hide the Windows Filename packed inside?

No, I'll look for a work around before I move them. I found a plugin for DokuWiki which is supposed to handle the filenames so you get the original names, but it did not work when I tried it and I have not had time today to look future into it.
