Why are FHUG Hyperlinks Orange ?

Post by tatewise » 31 Oct 2012 18:46

Nick Walker suggested the use of the Windows User Experience Interaction Guidelines and I downloaded the UX Guide in PDF format.
I have used some of its advice in my Plugin GUI designs.

Amongst the Top Violations it says don't use Blue text except for hyperlinks.
Traditionally, most interfaces do use Blue Hyperlinks.

So why are all FHUG Hyperlinks Orange ?

Just to clarify (before anyone starts getting picky about Ancestral Sources' interface), I mentioned the guidelines to Tatewise a while ago as being useful, but I don't necessarily stick to them myself :)

because Blue wouldn't fit in with the colour scheme, and so would stick out like a sore thumb?

My thoughts when I set the colour scheme for the site.

My understanding for web sites, is as long a links can be easily identified it does not matter what colour they are. For example on Google Reader some links are blue some black and some red.

I'm now seeing the links in bold, which is a little... in-your-face.

I'm also seeing the links in Bold but only on my XP machine. On Windows 7 they are still the same as before.
Google chrome used on both machines.

I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox. Happens on my desktop and netbook.

I am using Firefox 16 on Windows 7 SP1 too, and the links are Bold Orange.

Sometimes I find you have to Reload the webpage to force the PC cache of the webpage to get updated.
Either use the Reload current page icon on the address bar, or use right-click Reload. (Chrome may use slightly different terms).

With my ageing eyesight I actually prefer the Bold Orange links, because they are easier to spot.

Clearing the cache was the first thing I tried, Mike.
Can't swear, but I suspect the appearance coincided with the latest Firefox upgrade (I'm on 16.0.2)

Sorry I have been busy doing a complex install for my day job for the last couple of weeks.

I changed the CSS for the hyperlinks to be consistent with that used in the knowledge base. If it's that much of an issue I can change it back.

I assuming those who are not seeing it have a cached copy of the old CSS file.

No problem -- I can live with it, Jane -- or rather, adjust it using NoSquint to a less bright shade of browny-orange.

Jane, I don't believe the Knowledge Base style has changed.
It is simply that I have been using **bold** to make links appear in bold.

Old pages such as the Glossary are still in regular (non-bold) style.

But, as I have said, I prefer the bold links style.

Hi Jane,
I think the cached css is correct because I just refreshed the W7 version and lo and behold the hyper links are now in bold
