Problem with media images

Post by Dagwood » 29 Jun 2012 17:30

Reviewing my media images I notice that I have a small number of census images which will not open as thumbnails when I select an individuals media records ie there is a blank box with a cross through it.
I have checked and rechecked that the image is in the right place in the Project folder and that in all locations the spelling is correct and there are no odd spaces etc. I have then gone thro' the standard procedure for re-mapping from Tools>Work with external file links> Re-map> Re-map within Project folder after selecting the correct image from the list shown. Normally this works but for a small number of items I cannot get the thumbnail to appear.
Should I delete the image and open AS again and add the image to an existing record or just delete the image and then add the image to the individual's record?
The images were added thro' AS and in some cases apply to families of 6 or more people.
Or am I doing something basically wrong and cannot see what?

The blank box with a cross means there must be some discrepancy between the the folder & filename listed within FH and the actual folder & filename of the image file.

Using Re-Map will only adjust the folder containing the file you select, not the filename itself.

First, double check the image file is in the same folder as the other image files that are listed next to it in Work with External File Links.
I assume you know how to use Windows Explorer to perform this check.

Second, in Work with External File Links select the file with the cross, and click Go To button.
In the Multimedia Window select the blank image with cross and use View > Properties.
In the Property Box the Linked File field points to the image folder & filename.
Click on the ... button to right of this field and browse to the required image file, and Open it to fix the link.

All connected now, Many Thanks Mike.

Should I be able to find those instructions elsewhere eg Knowledge Base or Help?

In the Work with External File Links window the Help button gives an explanation of each feature.

However, it doesn't explain how to correct the Linked File field in the Multimedia Property Box.
It assumes you ought to know how to do that.
