Charts pixelate when displayed on CD
I'm In Australia for my daughters wedding and have been printing out all the charts of her future in-laws ancestors, probably 80 A4 sheets, each a family.
When I used the CD wizard all was fine until I saved some charts as jpg's and added them to the CD, when displayed and zoomed they are un-readable.
I have spent the last two hours going through the knowledge base and forum posts but have found nothing that helps.
I have tried saving as png, gif and pdf, PDF is great but won't display via the CD Wizard.
Any help to display readable charts that have already been created will be greatly appreciated.
PS Instead of burning a CD can I save the 'CD' data to a memory stick and get the same results?
Thanks

You can add PDF files, just use the GEDCOM and other files option to add them

The Knowledge Base entry for Wizard Step 4 Add Items for ToC expands on what Jane has said above.
I suspect you were trying to add the JPG/PNG trees as Multimedia links to get them into Reports.
These Report images are always reduced in resolution (pixelated), when CD/Website pages are created, on the assumption they are photos and will not be viewed enlarged.
The Wizard Step 3 Choose Report gives some more details.

Thank you both for your replies.
Both the jpg and PDF now open in the web browser. The jpg is still pixelated but the PDF is perfect. I assume that being displayed in the web browser is correct.

Sorry, I forgot to clarify that I added the chart via the 'Gedcom & other downloads' Option

Yes, displaying in web browser is correct, because the CD contents are designed for 'browsing'.
Locate the JPG Chart file that you added via the Downloads option.
Using Windows Explorer, double-click to open this JPG Chart file in a Picture Viewer or Photo Editor.
If it is still pixelated, then the problem lies with the way the file was created from FH.
If it is NOT pixelated, then the browser is displaying it in a reduced resolution.
Wait a moment or two, and see if the resolution improves.
Right-click on the image and see if there are any view options that display in a higher resolution.
BTW - which browser are you using?

The jpg is Pixelated in the Photo Viewer, could it be because I am on a Netbook? the resolution is only 1024 x 600 which is the 'Recommended setting, it is also the maximum.
I am using Google Chrome.

There is some suggestion from a Google Search for Google Chrome Pixelated Images that Chrome has pixelation problems sometimes.
Can you try another browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox?
How was the Diagram JPG created?
Did you use Diagram > Save Diagram As > JPEG File or was it created as an image included in a Report?

I'm using using Google Chrome because IE wouldn't work with FindMyPast on this Netbook, Nick spent some time helping and suggested I use Google Chrome which fixed the problem.
I created the JPG file using Diagrams > Save As > jpg.
The PDF displayed perfectly and instantly. Is it prefferable to use jpg files rather than PDF's. Do PDF's increase the file size?

I have carried out a few experiments.
PDF files do give a much clearer image and with the minimum file size.
This is achieved even at the default 100% Diagram Scaling.
The only only snag is that the various Zoom & Pan controls have to be enabled, and are a little unusual.
JPG and PNG files can produce acceptable images, but you may have to increase the Diagram Scaling to say 200% or more.
The file sizes are larger than PDF and often still more pixelated!

Thank you for your help.
The zoom & pan controls came up automatically at the bottom RH corner on the PDF in my test CD file.
I think that I will save all the charts as PDF's, I have to get the two CD's made by Tuesday, I don't know how long it will take on this Netbook with it's Atom processor.
Thanks again.

Just a quick update.
The 'CD' data was produced in no time and worked a treat. The PDF charts worked fine with Zoom & Pan.
The recipients use Apple Mac's and start code from the FHUG help page worked first time, just copied and pasted it into Notepad.
The daughters new in-laws were thrilled with the results.
