Rename events/attributes

Post by JonAxtell » 26 Oct 2007 10:31

If you import a gedcom and the other researcher uses christenings and you use baptisms, or similarly deaths/burials are a bit confused and use the wrong event/attribute then you currently have to either re-enter the fields in the new event, copy the fields one by one, or edit the file manually to change the sub-structure name. This can also occur if you make a mistake, or if two events have very similar properties and you copy and paste details from one to the other.

It would be nice if it was possible to rename an event. So a christening could be renamed to a baptism without any chance of an error cropping up due to miskeying or not copying a field. In the case of events with very similar properties, it is quicker and simpler to copy the event, rename it, and change the properties that are different (e.g. date).

It should be possible to rename any event/attribute to another without restriction except that if an attribute is copied, the attribute's text should be saved as a note so that information is not lost.
