I have a marriage certificate which lists witnesses to the marriage, and am entering details from this source in my database.
At the moment, I can use 'associated person' to link individuals to each other -- I suppose the obvious choice is to link the best man to the groom and the maid/matron of honor to the bride.
However, it seems to me it might be more useful to link the the pastor officiating to the event itself, especially when an individual's church-going habits are not known.
The clergyperson involved could be the regular officiant at the person's church -- or it could be a one-time contact.
For some members of my family, the funerals have been conducted by clergy unknown to them. The event would be the only time the associated person was connected to them.
With a link to the event rather than the people, one could build a query for all funerals or marriages or baptisms at which [clergy member] officiated, and so on.

I think this might be covered by wish list item 12
