Cope better when Gedcom Census updates GEDCOM file

Post by gbrowne » 30 Jan 2009 08:35

When Gedcom Census posts an amended GEDCOM file as a result of 'Save', FH correctly notices and asks you if you wish to reload the new data, however when it is reloaded, your current view is blanked and you lose context.

I find this irksome to say the least, as I usually have the two side by side on my screen for reference.

In contrast, Gedcom Census copes well if FH changes the GEDCOM file.  It notices the change, loads the new file, but keeps the current context so you can continue to work.

This issue would be even more of a  problem in any situation where more than one person is working on a single GEDCOM at the same time (a study group for example).

Perhaps the most obvious fix would be for Calico to buy the rights to GC and incorporate the functionality into FH [eek]

Vote for item 324, Support for Plug Ins (APIs) so Nick can integrate Gedcom census with FH.

Yes, of course that would be even better, though I understood development on GC is halted ?

I believe Nick is awaiting the next release of FH before doing any more work in the near future. He also did post a question about the new columns in the 1911 Census so the program is definitely alive and well!

Actually I've been working on an entirely new version for a while. My plan is that this will do much more than the original (some of you can probably guess what I'm talking about). I don't want to say too much now as there is a lot to do and I can't predict when it will be ready for release yet.
