Instead of having a screen grab button, why can't the cursor automatically change to the correct function/ikon when it hovers over the required item. eg pointer when over menu's, cross over detail box and hand for grabbing the screen around when over the the grey background.

Assuming you are talking about diagrams?
Did you realise you just need to hold down the space bar to go into Screen grab mode at any time in diagrams.
Personally I find flickering cursors very annoying.

Thanks for the tip about the space bar, but automatic would still work best for me.

I can't see how that would work, especially as you can select boxes, by dragging over them
