Ancestor's UK Census Checker

Post by Jane » 01 Feb 2012 14:05

I have just added a new plugin to the the Store and would appreciate any feedback.

Searches all the Ancestors of a selected person for the 1841 to 1911 UK Census and produces a web page to search Ancestry for any missing Census Records.

Estimated dates are used, where none are recorded. Women's married names are used where the Census is After the marriage date (or after the birth of the first child).

I hope to include FindMyPast at some point, but they don't have an easy interface so I am waiting to see if they have any documentation they are willing to share.

Not tested exhaustively, but so far seems to work well.  Only problem is that Ancestry's View Image links are out of sync - each works for the entry below, and there is no link for the top entry.

Hi Jane,
Seems to work OK, but I only have a FMP subscription and not an ancestry one.
If you can get it to work for FMP then that would be excellent

Peter, not sure why that is, if you do the same search in Ancestry (eg do an edit search) do the links correct themselves?

There is no documentation so I had to work it out from the URLs.

John, I had a 'we have passed on your query' so I will wait and see if I get any thing back.

No, it's definitely an Ancestry problem. An independent search has the same issue:
Image
The View Image link should be for James + Frances in Oakhill but is actually for James + Hannah in Seascale.

I have now been able to test on ancestry, and am not getting the problem of the shifted link.
I am on IE9 for the search with W7 Pro x64.
I haven't tested it with google chrome or Firefox yet.
I will test with Win XP and IE 8 tomorrow

Hi Jane,
v1.1 OK on FMP, but would be better with just first part of birth place, not whole entry. FMP is far more selective on what it shows, possibly even include only first forename.

Unfortunately the ancestry buttons do not work at all. There appears to be no link on the button

Strange it's working for me on both Firefox and IE9, are you on IE9?

Please try removing the code around the ancestrytemplate =
string.

I've just tried v1.1 and it still works very well, both the links for Ancestry and the buttons for Find My Past.  I don't have a subscription for FMP, so cannot get beyond the initial results summary page.

I have reported the Ancestry display misalignment problem both to Ancestry (since they are not immune from coding errors) and to Google Chrome (since the page displays differently, and with the links aligned properly, if I use Chrome's IE simulator).

Hi Jane,
Yes removing works, but leaves a hyperlink instead of a button. I am on my XP machine with IE8

I have updated the source (but not the release number) in the plugin store to remove the button code and I have used PLAC:SHORT for the place and NAME:FIRST for the Find My Past Search option.

Thanks Jane,
Works OK on XP with IE8.
Out of curiosity, at home with W7x64 and IE9 I have added the button controls back in, and it works fine.
So it must be just IE8 that is the problem.

It has been superseded by https://pluginstore.family-historian.co ... nsus-facts
so I was not going to do anything with it.
