Mike:

Excellent plug-in which I have been using to detect anomalies in my data. I have a number of undefined marriages flagged up in red:

Image

All but one of the individuals in the file have a gender assigned, so what is the significance of 'undefined' in marriages please (and what sort of query should I use to look for them to see if remedial data entry is required)?

Many thanks,
Derek

Mike:

Please ignore my question about undefined couples since I can now see that the 54 relates to couples in my file where one of the parties is an unknown individual.

On double checking those Couples statistics some are incorrect - Sorry!

Same Sex is always blank.
Undefined counts both Same Sex and One Parent Families.

It is impossible for a Parent to have their Sex undefined, but it is possible for their to be No Parents defined.

This will be corrected in the next Plugin Version, by correctly counting Same Sex and One Parent and No Parents Families.

Mike
I have just discovered, and downloaded, this excellent plug-in. I have, however, one anomaly - Flags for 1851, 61, 71 and 81 censuses are not listed, but there is a large number recorded against 'All Other'. 1841, 91, 1901 and 1911 numbers are shown. I am guessing (correctly or incorrectly) that the missing census numbers are there. I don't Flag these events any differently from the others as I use AS.
Any ideas?
Regards

Roger

Looking at my results, only 10 flag results are shown. Living and private are always included, but I can't work out how the rest are chosen. I do know that FH seems to store the flag names internally in (I think) the order that they were created, but they are always displayed alphabetically (Except In the query tab and when you are trying to build an expression) But the plugin results use none of these orders.

I wasn't sure how much Flags are still used, now that Expressions can be used more effectively instead, as explained in Using Flags and Icons.
This even applies to Ancestral Sources assigned Census Flags in most scenarios.

The Plugin reports Living, Private, 8 named Flags, and All Other Flags, discovered as Individuals are processed in Record Id order.
So the order of the 8 named Flags is rather arbitrary.

I could rearrange it to list the 8 most used named Flags, with the remainder under All Other.

That sounds good Mike,
I have moved over to expressions mainly, but still use flags to show negatives, as in 'NOT in 1891' census etc. to show that I have looked really hard and can't find an individual, as opposed to just not having found them yet.
That way I can go back over my 'NOT' flags from time to time and review them

Just tried the new version.
Now correctly showing my same sex couples.

I still have at least one record with age at census = - 1 .

I have tried several variations of query, but cannot track down this/these record/s

John ~ Create a custom copy of the All Facts Query and add Column:

=AgeAt(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),%FACT.DATE%)

In the Result Set click on this AgeAt column heading and -1 should be near the top, below those with no AgeAt due to no Birth Event or no Fact Date.
Double-click the Fact Date field and the Property Box should open on the Facts tab with Fact selected.

Thanks for the help Mike, Found it at last.

I had tried a customised all fact query, but obviously I hadn't got the expression quite right.

I am working on the following enhancements to this Plugin and would value your feedback.
  • 1) Correct error in Ave.Children count that displays 0.5 too large.
  • 2) Add an Idents column to the Records table that counts Custom Id & Permanent Record No & Automatic Record Id.
  • 3) Create a Result Set on exit giving an Exceptions Report of all the abnormal data detected, such as Undefined Sex, negative or large Ages, future Dates, and the three counts listed below, so you do not have to create Queries to find them.
  • 4) No Birth counts only if no Birth, no Baptism, & no Christening.
  • 5) No Death counts only if no Death, no Burial, & no Living flag.
  • 6) No Marriage counts only for 2 Parent Families with no Marriage and no Unmarried or Never Married Status.
  • 7) Apart from Living & Private, list the 4 most used Flags at the top, and the 4 least used Flags at the bottom of the column, with a count of all other Flags in the middle.
  • 8) Similarly list 2 largest Pool 1 & Pool 2 at the top, 2 smallest at the bottom, and a count for others in the middle, which shows the number of Pools as well as sizes.
What do you think?

That sounds good Mike.
However, I do not personally use the living or private flags, so my results for them would be zero, taking up the space that could show another two flags, maybe they should not have special treatment.
The data exception report would be a major boon (although I think I've tracked most of mine down, but you never know)
