I am evaluating FH after using Brothers Keeper for many years. I have other files which cross reference to the record identifiers in BK and want to keep the same numbers in FH.
The help files in FH say that other programs may store their record ids in the custom id field while others use the Automated record id field. I can find the custom id field in FH, and the BK numbers are not there. However I cannot find the automated record id field in FH. Can anyone help?

Have you checked the normal record numbers?
Just look on the top of the property box, after the name the 'record' number will be shown.
A good quick check is to look at the BK gedcom file in a text editor to see if it has exported the records to the gedcom with your numbers.

Keeping the same record id from Brothers Keeper
Hi Jane
Thanks for the reply.
There are numbers against each name but they are not the same as I had in Brothers Keeper.
I read the Gedcom file in a text document and I cannot see the ids listed. Is that the problem?
The help files in FH seem to indicate that I could solve this problem by using the automated record field, but I cannot find that field anywhere in FH.

If Brothers Keeper did not export them as the Record ID's for your GEDCOM file then it will not be easy for FH to pick them up. I would have a look through the options on BK to see if there is a way to export the numbers as Record IDs or Custom IDs when you export from there.
The Automatic numbers won't help if you don't have the data in your file for FH to look at.
You could manually renumber all your records using the Custom ID and then copying it to the record ID if you want.

I managed to find a way of selecting the ids in BK before creating the GEDCOM file. problem solved thank you. However it has resulted in a new problem, but I'll raise a separate thread for that.
Thanks for your help.
