Ancestry to FH - Media File path

Post by dermotdjt » 29 Jul 2013 19:51

Hi

I've exported a gedcom of my family tree from Ancestry and used it to create a FH5 Project. All went OK with that except of course, being a gedcom, there are no media files included.

The Multimedia Records exist within FH5 but the file path point to the online Ancestry location. As I have all the media stored locally, is there any way to edit the file path to point to local location. I was thinking of copying all the media in to the  approriate FH Project Media folder and hoping that FH5 would then be able to find the local media all in one hit.

Many thanks

Dermot

Are the actual file names the same as the hrefs?

If so you might be able to use the search and replace plugin to remove the href part.

Yes, you can edit the Linked File path in each Multimedia Record to refer to the appropriate media file within the Media folder.
This will have to be done one by one.

If your local media files match the Multimedia Ancestry File links, then there may be a better way.
e.g.
Linked File = http ://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=99bc7047-c617-49e3-8c40-92b4187b43fa&tid=12345678&pid=1
Format = jpg
and
Media filename = 99bc7047-c617-49e3-8c40-92b4187b43fa.jpg

This can be arranged by right clicking on each Ancestry online Media file and using Save Picture/Image As.

Then look in the Plugin Discussion thread Check and Repair Media Links.
Install the Plugin from the SkyDrive link and it should offer to Alter the Media record link to match file which can be applied to every Broken File Link.
