I'm sure you're not being at all stupid, Chris. It is hard to understand what is wanted.
All I can think is that perhaps it was a rather roundabout request for a simple way to produce a tree based on the results of a query, specifically a tree containing the Individual records in the Result Set. Perhaps it was thought that if the Records Window could be made to show only the records in the Query Result Set, that would enable a corresponding tree to be viewed.

I think this was really a way to get the 'records' window view for Query results, so you have + next to the records and show the details from there.
A bit like you can do in the Named List Window.

I agree with the above. I'm sure that Jane is correct in her interpretation.
It is already possible to achieve more-or-less what we think is wanted by having a docked property box showing the All tab on the Query Results window.
