I need a printable list of all surnames included in my FH file, without any other information such as forename, etc., and just one entry per surname.
How do I do it.

There is no single step solution, but here is one way.

Open the Query Window and use Query Menu > New Custom Query top right with Query Name = Surnames and Query Type = Individual.
On the Columns tab change the one Expression to %INDI.NAME[1]:SURNAME% and select Sort: Ascending then click Update.
The Result Set will then list all Surnames in alphabetical order.

If you prefer these Surnames to be in Mixed Case rather than UPPER CASE, then untick Tools > Preferences > Display surnames in upper case.

To eliminate duplicates requires the use of a spreadsheet.
So use Save Query To File > Save As Comma-Separated CSV File top right.
Say No to Include column headings in the file?
Say Yes to Do you wish to view the newly-created file?
In the spreadsheet program there will be a remove duplicates option.
In MS Word 2007 this is on the Data tab.
Save and Print the resulting spreadsheet.

Another option is to simply use the Surname summary report plugin if you have V5, you can edit to to remove the extra columns or just make them very narrow when you print the result set.

To be precise that is the Surname Summary Report Plugin.
Download using link above, or via the Tools > Plugins > Plugin Store button.

If you prefer Surnames to be in Mixed Case rather than UPPER CASE, then untick Tools > Preferences > Display surnames in upper case before running Plugin.

If you don't mind the statistical data, or reduce their width as Jane suggests, then the Result Set can be Printed directly.
The Surname list can be sorted by clicking on the column heading.
The title and subtitle can be cleared on the General tab.

Otherwise, use Save Query To File > Save As Comma-Separated CSV File as above, and delete the offending spreadsheet columns before Saving and Printing.

Alternatively, to edit the Plugin for your purposes, use Tools > Plugins > More>> select the Plugin and click Edit.
Locate the fhOutputResultSet... lines and edit the first two as follows and delete the other three.

Mike you don't need to export it to print without the columns, just narrow the width down to nothing and they won't print.
