You can re-order records by clicking the header at the top of the column you want to use for sorting.  To sort by date, click on the Dates column.  By default this sorts with most recent at the top.  Hold down the Alt key while clicking column header to sort in the other order.

If it is the order of events, children or spouses that are out of sequence you can use 'Reorder out of Sequence Data' which you will find in the Tools menu.

When you re-ordered the data did you let it re-order the families too?

If you mean they are out of order in the records window e.g. you have several people with the same name and you want to sort them by date, first click on 'Dates' at the top of the column to put them in date order, then click on 'Individual Records'.
