civil marriage
Hi! I like the FH concept very much but the way marriages are handled seems to be adequate for the UK and North-America but is not very convenient for countries where it is demanded that the civil marriage takes place before the religious marriage. I usually have two marriage dates to keep track of for persons married after 1875 in Prussia. Just entering two marriages to the same persons is not very useful. Then there are two marriages in the diagram with two branches with identical children. The other solution does not work well either: I entered a new event 'civil marriage'. Under diagram/options/text I changed the settings so that the religious (standard) marriage is only shown if the civil marriage is empty. But then the religious (standard) marriage is also displayed in the boxes for the male persons. Has anybody here faced the same problem or can suggest a better solution? Thank you!

Have you checked the box selections for the text scheme?
I suspect you have one conditioned on spouse, but not the other.

Hi Jane,
if I select 'only output if previous item blank (use same Box Types & Conditions)' all box types and conditions turn gray and cannot be selected for this event. Seems like the supressed civil marriage info for male boxes is handled as 'item blank' and then the (religious) standard marriage dates are added for male boxes.

I would use a flag then to condition the output.

Thank you Jane. It works well with assigning flags. I use a 'civil marriage' flag and suppress the standard marriage event if this flag is set. But this means I have to keep track of all new civil marriage entries and have to assign a flag there. This is not very convenient. It would be much more helpful if I was able to set conditions for events that are only shown if the previous event is empty. Maybe I should add it to the wish list?

Don't forget you could do a query to easily set the flag, where both event types exist for a family record and just run it to reset the flag.
This works well for other flag setting for icon control etc.

Re-reading this I would have thought the original option should have worked.
Could you do a couple of screen grabs for the two lines and the resulting diagram.
Thanks

I think the problem is your civil marriage line, does not say females only for the ancestor selection.

Thank you Jane! Now it works well! I had not only to set the ancestor option to 'female only' but all options. Thanks again. It's just great!
