My AS has lost it's Memory

Post by Stevebye » 11 Apr 2012 16:52

When saving images for Baptism and Marriage things are ok, after clicking on 'SAVE' then 'YES' to 'Choose folder after clicking 'Yes' the correct folder is highlighted. (I have just two folders, Baptism and Marriage).

When doing the same for Censuses it's always the last Census folder used that's highlighted. (I have one folder for each census year).

Not a big problem, just niggly.

When retrieving an image the correct folder on my 'C' drive is chosen.

I've just downloaded the latest Beta test file 3.0.1 and it's still occurring.

Setup Win7 (32bit), FH v5 and AS 3.0.1
Had the same problem with FH v4.1.3

If I understand you correctly, this is exactly what I want it to do... remember the last folder used.

I have many hundreds of folders that contain census images.  Each one is for a different person.  Within that folder are all the census images for that person.  I usually am entering them all in one sitting.  I want it to remember the last folder so I don't have to browse and find that person every time.

It seems to usually remember the correct folder, but not always. Sometimes it ends up highlighting the wrong one.

Steve: This is a known issue in ASv3.0 which I am hoping is fixed in the next update that as a previous beta tester you've been sent a preview copy of (for readers of this thread, this is the v3.0.1 that Steve refers to which hasn't been released yet). I'll contact you via email regarding your report that v3.0.1 doesn't fix it.

Nick,

So now I'm confused.

Isn't AS supposed to remember the last folder used and select it the next time SAVE is clicked? For me, I believe all versions including 3.0.1 have usually remembered the last folder used (but not always).

If not, what is supposed to happen and what is the known issue?

Hi Bill

The issue was discussed here.
When selecting an image for e.g. the UK 1851 census, AS should automatically open the image folder that was last used for the 1851 census (and remember the media folder used if being copied into the project media), similarly for each of the other census years.

In version 3 I introduced the idea that these folders would be remembered on a per-project basis so you could use different UK 1851 census folders for each project. But I didn't quite get this change right. I'm hoping this is fixed in the update that is coming soon (and that I sent you a copy of earlier Bill).

Incidentally AS should always remember the folder so I suspect the 'not always' would be down to the bug I refer to.

Best wishes

Nick

Hi Nick,

Yes, I did get the email and did download and install 3.0.1.

I had seen this other message thread, but ignored it because I only have one project.  So, I obviously didn't understand the issue that Stevebye was referring to and shouldn't have piped up.  [oops]

It still has the problem of not always remembering in 3.0.1. This happens even though I only have 1 project.

Thanks!

Bill

The way that AS (and Gedcom Census before it) remembers the folder for each census is something I've always felt was one of the best features of my software - simple idea but very effective. Sadly I broke it in v3, even for people who just use one project which is why it sometimes doesn't work Bill :(
