It’s easy to find posts that don’t fully agree, even if you ignore vendors. They broadly point to users as a weak link and Apple doing a good but not stellar job.

I had a case where BitDefender found a virus in my Windows partition and had to roll it back. My fault for trying to get some old PC games to work under Windows 10!

Like you I've had Mac virus/malware issues from time to time. When I chose BitDefender it was on the explicit advice of a person from Apple Tech Support, who said that is what they use.
