Refresh Book causes FH to close

Post by Orijohnal »

This issue was raised back in '21 with v. 7.0.5 but I haven't found a workaround or solution.

I'm using v. 7.0.22 and testing with the Sample project as well as my own project.

Choosing "Standard Build" or "Full Rebuild" after selecting [View Book] or [Refresh Book] from the "Select Book" or "Edit Book" dialog with the "Close on Edit or View" option enabled or disabled has the same effect . . . . I (sometimes) see a progress bar appear on the bottom left, then FH abruptly closes.

This feature has worked reliably for me previously.

Any ideas?

When you say 'it was raised' did you raise a ticket with Calico pie? If not go to https://support.calico-pie.com/open.php to do so. Its unlikely that anyone else can help.

You did not post anything here in 2021 on any subject. Your last posting before today was in 2018.

What are you 'testing' with?

What distinguishes the cases that work reliably from those that cause FH to close?

Are you saying that the identically same Book sometimes works OK and sometimes closes FH?
You seem to be saying it failed in 2021, but has worked OK subsequently, and is now failing again.

The issue was raised and reported by Treesearcher2 in 2021:

Refresh books causing FH7 to close (19396)

My experience with FH closing on a book refresh is recent. My testing amounts to using the sample project to replicate the issue. I presume that rules out any properties of my own data, charts, etc. being the culprit.

This is not intermittent. I used to have no problem publishing books. Now it fails on refresh every time. I'm happy to report this to CP but wanted to check here first.

Cheers,

John

The 2021 problem with FH V7.0.5 involved FH V6 Charts, which when replaced by FH V7 Charts fixed the problem.

I suspect the current Refresh problem involves Diagrams/Charts included with the Books.
Do those same Diagrams/Charts display OK when opened via the Charts menu?
Take care to use the same parameters and options as in the Book.

If you create a Book without any Diagrams/Charts involved does the Refresh problem still happen?

To display Diagrams/Charts FH relies heavily on your current default Printer driver.
What is your current File > Print Setup... in terms of Printer Name and Paper Size?
Try using printer Family Historian PDF and A4 paper. Does that change the Book Refresh behaviour?

Have you changed your printer attached to your PC recently?

I've resolved my problem generating books by uninstalling and reinstalling FH. Simply reinstalling had no effect.

Thanks Mike and Helen (& Martin at Calico Pie).
