Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
I've noticed for the past few months that when copying footnote text from a FH7 source and then pasting it to my word processor (Atlantis), the first line is italicized, even though the italics aren't present in the FH display.
However, if I include the Footnote header in the citation area, the italics don't appear. I think this is since the update a few months ago. It happens no matter what Source I'm using. Very annoying as it means having to remove the italics manually each time. And that's a lot of extra mouse-work when I have a blog post with 10-30 citations.
Has anyone else experienced this? I thought at first it might be something to do with Atlantis (an fantastic indie program), but the same thing happens in Word, text boxes in Snagit, etc. See attached image.

I can replicate the same problem. Revealing the text formatting in Word shows that it is picking up an erronous Italic format at the beginning of the pasted section, which is not passed when the header is included.
I couldn't find any way to suppress this being copied from the source citation, and I would consider it a bug to be reported to Calico Pie.

A workaround is to start the selection at the end of the word Footnote instead of the start of the next line.

Annoyingly, that didn't work for me when I tried it earlier. Now it does. User error I suppose rather than inconsistent program behaviour.

Yes - I realize that, however it's then annoying to have to delete that word for 10-20 citations...However, at least I now know it's not just me. I'll report it to CP and see what they say.

Thanks for confirming it's not just me. I figured that must be the issue, however, I know it didn't used to happen. I will report it to CP.

Re: Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
I tested this with a couple of my different citation formats (all based on custom source template definitions) and noticed that it only occurs where there is an italicised section. For example, the following copied fine into Word:
But for this one, the entire first section up to and including the word "Ancestry" was italicised (where that was the only italicised part appearing in FH):England, death registration, James Hallett, 30 April 1874; registered June quarter 1874, Grantham District 7a/287, Grantham Sub-district, Lincolnshire; General Register Office, Southport, England.
So it is possibly something to do with the way the source templates apply italic formatting? Has anyone tried with generic sources to see if the same issue exists?1871 census of England, Dorset, Charminster, p. 21, James Hallett household; digital images, Ancestry (https://www.ancestry.com.au/discoveryui ... 45884:7619 : accessed 27 July 2023); citing The National Archives (TNA), RG10, piece 2013, folio 32.

I think this is what Mike was referring to - you don't need to include the header in your selection, just begin it immediately afterwards but on that line. That does indeed seem to copy the citation correctly into Word!

Ah, light goes on. Thanks, Sarah
Worked for me in Atlantis as well.
Still very odd, given I never had to worry before.

Interesting observation. I wonder what changed within the last few months. I too would be curious to know if it happens with generic sources.

Yes, my experiment was with Genetric Sources which exhibit the same problem.

Is it still worth reporting to CP, given there's a workaround?

Re: Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
I tried it with my generic sources. I normally have the Title in Italics and everything else not italicized.
If I cut and paste it into word, I get this.
Biographical Publishing Company, Men of West Virginia, Volume I, (Chicago: Biographical Publishing Company, 1903). Page 70. Internet Archive.
If I change preferences to not italicize the title so it is all non-italicized, I get this.

Re: Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
The problem seems to apply when the text starts plain, is then italics, and finally returns to plain.
Whether the problem affects other combinations of text style is open to experimentation.
The behaviour is unexpected so report it to CP and see what they say.

Response from CP:
"We have confirmed what you are seeing, when copying the Footnote text in the side panel of the Citation Window. This will be fixed in the next upgrade."
I very rarely see this kind of almost immediate response from software developers.
