Individual Narrative Report
I am getting a set of " at the end of some of my sentences when I run my reports. Example:
I have a fact for sports that just has a date and the sports played.
Sports: Basketball, Football, and Tennis
Date: 1960
Place:
Address:
Age:
Note:
{individual's} {label} were <{value}> {date} {place} {age}
The sentence reads: His Sports were Basketball, Football, and Tennis in 1960. "
I am not sure where the set of " marks are coming from.
If I fill in the missing information, the " just move to the end of the sentence.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
I've moved this to the new Reports, Books & Websites forum.
That is very strange and my first inclination would be that the Sentence Template has a rogue set of " marks at the end.
However, you say the template is {individual's} {label} were <{value}> {date} {place} {age}
Where are you obtaining that template?
From the Tools > Fact Types... dialogue or from the Sentence box for that specific Fact?
Are the " marks shown in the Sentence box as well as in the Narrative Report?
Could you attach a screenshot of the specific Fact showing its Sentence box and also a fragment of the Narrative Report.
I've just had an idea. Are the marks a superscript 11 referring to the 11th Source Citation in the Sources section below?

Re: Individual Narrative Report
No the marks are not in the sentence. They are just in the report.
I am not sure what the super script is?
I made sure that the sentence was the same in Tools < Fact types also.
I am having trouble taking a picture using the snip tool. I can save it to the clipboard or a file, but it will not past in this box to show you.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
You must save the snip to a file and then attach the saved file to the FHUG posting ATTACHMENTS tab.
See Forum Usage Tips Attachments.
Whenever a fact has a Source Citation then in any Report it has a superscript suffix (i.e. small raised number) that cross-refers to the Citation in the Sources section later in the Report.
In the Report > Options > Sources tab, try unticking the Show Source Citations box top left.
Then click OK. Do the '' marks vanish?
If so then I am correct they are Source Citation crossreferences.

Please post a screenshot of the Narrative Report so I can see the '' marks.

You can see that the same thing is happening with just the marriage for Ouida Rodgers. I added her the same as I did for the other 2 wifes.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
I just added a note to another person in my tree and then ran the individual Narrative Report and noticed that the " mark showed up. I then went to edit and undo the note and the text from the note was gone, but the " was still there at the end of the sentence.
Re: Individual Narrative Report
For one of the individuals where the '' shows (preferably one with not many facts) go to the All tab of their property box. Expand all the levels by clicking the + signs and screen shot that please.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
That is certainly very odd. There are several things I want to investigate:
1) Sports Attribute
Your screenshot of the Facts tab shows a Sports Custom Attribute because it has a Sports: value.
Whereas, the screenshot of the Fact Definition shows a Custom Event with a different Sentence Template.
Please attach a screenshot of the Fact Definition for the Sports Custom Attribute.
You need to clean up those Sports facts and change all the Sports Custom Events to Sports Custom Attributes, then delete the Fact Definition for the Sports Custom Event.
2) Marriage Event
Each Marriage Event starts on a new line and is often preceded by the '' marks.
So please attach a screenshot of the Fact Definition for the Marriage Event.
3) Report Options
Please attach a screenshot of the Narrative Report Options... Main tab settings.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
I went into my facts and made a new Fact for sports and made sure it was not an event. Then I deleted the fact that I was using. I then went into J.V.'s facts and deleted the fact that was there and recreated it using the new fact. I added a little to the note field to see what happened when I ran the report again. I am still getting the " mark at the end of the note.
The sentence is now: {individual} played {label} {date}, {place} {age} {note} on J.V. facts

Re: Individual Narrative Report
This is the sentence for the marriage. I did not change anything in the marriage fact.
<br>{individual} married< {spouse/her/him}> {date} <at {address}> {place} {their ages}. <The best man was {role(single)=Best man}. ><{role(single)=bridesmaid} was a bridesmaid. ><Bridesmaids included {role(plural)=bridesmaid}. ><Witnesses at the marriage included {role=witness}. ><The ceremony was conducted by {role=minister}. ><The ceremony was conducted by {role=priest}. ><The ceremony was conducted by {role=rabbi}.>

Re: Individual Narrative Report
There are a number of issues being revealed by your screenshots...
The Fact Definition for the Sports Custom Attribute has a Sentence Template that does not match the sentences shown in the Narrative Report and Facts tab screenshot. Also, I've spotted that the Facts tab Sentence box has a white background.
That means it is using a local specific Sentence Template in that Sentence box instead of using the global Fact Definition for the Sentence Template.
What is that local specific Sentence Template?
Ideally, you should change the Fact Definition to use {individual's} {label} were {value} {date} {place} {age}
and Reset Sentence in the Fact to use that global definition. But wait until we have resolved the '' marks problem.
Your recent screenshot of the All tab is inconsistent with the earlier screenshots for the Narrative Report and Facts tab for the Sports attribute. It has Place and Note fields that the earlier ones do not have.
From the analysis above, it should have a Sentence field but does not.
In the Narrative Report Options > Main tab, what happens if you untick Inc. Event/Attr Notes?
Do the '' marks vanish?
You say you never changed the Marriage Event but the default Sentence Template does not start with <br> so you must have edited that.
In the Tools > Fact Types... are there only Standard, Extended Set and Custom Fact Sets or are there also imported Fact Sets from FTM or RM and might they affect the Sports fact definition?
Can you please explain the inconsistencies I have noted above.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
The local sentence is: {individual} played {label} {date}, {place} {age} {note} This does not have a white background on my computer.
I tried unclicking Inc. Event/Attr Notes in the options and it did not change the ".
yes, there are only Standard, Extended Set, and Custom Fact Sets.
I forgot I did add the <br> and address to the marriage global template. It now reads:
"<br>{individual} married< {spouse/her/him}> {date}< at {address}> {place} {their ages}.

Err...
There's a double quote at the beginning of that template.

Removing the " from the marriage fact, fixed them all.
I am not sure how one fact is tied to all the fact sentences.

Re: Individual Narrative Report
The <br> throws a new paragraph so I'm guessing that the " at the end of preceding lines would be expected as that is the opening character of the Marriage sentence.

I replaced the global fact for sports to read: {individual's} {label} were {value} {date} {place} {age}
Everything is working fine.
Is there a way to see the full template that is used for an individual?

Click on the vertical bar at the extreme right of the sentence field, then select Edit Sentence. That will display the current sentence template for the individual. The sentence field has a white background if it has previously been edited for that individual. Is there a way to see the full template that is used for an individual?
