I am using a Windows 11 PC and FH7 V 7.0.19. When using the Automatic Source Citation (ASC) Tool.
When I add a fact anywhere, ASC works exactly as expected - the source gets added to that fact.
But when I add a note anywhere, although ASC is enabled, it doesn't add the source to the note and I have to manually add it. Or alternatively, if I go back and edit the note in any way, ASC will then add the source.
ASC has never worked for me in FH7, but did work in FH6.
I imported the database from a GEDCOM from FTM 2005 four years ago onto a Windows 7 PC using FH6. I did install FH7 on Windows 7 and it ran fine - apart from Automatic Source Citation not working - I didn't appreciate you shouldn't install FH7 onto Windows 7 - but I can't do anything about that now!
I now have a Windows 11 PC and FH7 and ASC still doesn't work.
I wondered if it was related to the database I am using, but exactly the same thing happened when I recently created a brand new database to research a different family tree. I can't believe I am the only user in the world with this problem?
Is there a preference which I have inadvertently set?

Re: Automatic Source Citiation Not Working Properly
Yes, I have noticed that behaviour with ASC and Note fields, but never got around to reporting it to CP.
I think the explanation may be due to the GEDCOM specification.
In FH V6 (and earlier) it used GEDCOM v5.5 which allows Source Citations on Note fields.
In FH V7 it uses GEDCOM v5.5.1 which does not allow Source Citations on Note fields.
I suspect ASC is honouring that change in the GEDCOM specification.
However, to retain backward compatibility with FH V6 and avoid other complications, FH V7 does actually allow Source Citations to be added to Note fields even though that violates the GEDCOM specification.
I know that is inconsistent on various levels, so ask CP for an explanation via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php.
Interestingly, GEDCOM v7.0 allows Source Citations on Note fields again!

Sorry correction:
In previous versions of FH, if I added a note anywhere with ASC enabled, it would not add the source to the note. But if you then edited the note, it would then add the source.
In FH 7.0.19 it never adds the source with ASC enabled.

OK, but I don't think that needs any changes to my reply.
