List All Citations for a Source error

Post by gapperly » 22 Feb 2023 22:56

Plugin List All Citations For A Source gives the following error at line 253 - attempt to index a nil value (global 'iup'). I don't know enough LUA to understand the problem. I reinstalled the plugin and tried to run it against two separate projects with the same result. FH v7.0.18 and Windows 11.

Where did this plugin originate please?

I'm confused - the store plugin is List All Citations For A Selected Source, so do you mean that one, or a different plugin?

Mark, this might be one of several plugins listed in the Plugin Store with one Filename but have a different Title once downloaded and installed into FH.
i.e. V1.6
File Name: List All Citations for a Selected Source
Plugin Title: List All Citations for a Source
Also, its earlier V1.5 had File Name: List All Citations for a Source

However, they don't have as many as 250 lines. So an error on line 253 is not possible!

We need more details about exactly which plugin this is.
It sounds like one that is not designed to work in FH V7.

BTW: The old List All Citations for a Source V1.5 May 2012 does produce that 'iup' error message on line 127 and is definitely not designed for FH V7, whereas the Plugin Store List All Citations for a Selected Source V1.6 does run in FH V7.

You are both right. I was running V1.5 which has over 400 lines. I failed to notice the change of name and reran the old version, which was still installed, I assumed the new version had overwritten the old one but with a new name it is considered a different plugin. And that explains why Check Installed Plugins Against the Store didn't pick it up; if I look at the details of that plugin I see V1.5 is not in the store. Thanks again.

In any case, the plugin is somewhat redundant as FH V7 now has the View > Citations to Source Record... command which lists more information.

The old List All Citations for a Source V1.5 May 2012 does produce that 'iup' error message on line 127
I’m impressed - you still have a ten-year-old version of somebody else’s plugin!

Am I missing something? Ever keen to get rid of obsolete stuff (instead of doing real work), I just ran both PlugIn and View > Citations to Source Record... for the same source, and the latter doesn't give more information. Things like "Entry Date", "Where Within", "Text From Source" and "Quality" appear on the PlugIn output but not in the "View" command.

However the "View" command gives the "Citation Footnote Text" which might have been set up to show the missing items. Though not in my case....

This isn't something to do with a generic versus template approach is it?

You are correct Adrian. I did not spot the plugin result set columns beyond the right of my FH window.
