Moving RM (8) to FH

Hi

I am testing FH right now. Plan to move to FH shortly but working on some housekeeping in RM before I do.
With the test IMPORT from RM to FH. I notice that the Family Search ID's did not come across. That said I have some questions related to moving from RM to FH:
  • Direct import vs GEDCOM pro/cons ?
    I read about a plugin that may fix that issue, which one ?
    Any other tips for FamilySearch IDs?
    What other things should I be aware of moving RM to FH?
for Background I previously used FTM 2004-2021. I switched to RM7/RM 8 Preview at that time due numerous failed or sync that corrupted data. Later RM8 when it officially was released. Overall I really like RM, what it does. it does well in general. my reasons for needing FH, there is too much RM lacks and can't do. (Queries and plugins for example). I am new to FH and this group. Originally I was going to explore FH but ran out of time. Due to the corrupted media links/names with FTM, I decided to rebuilt my tree mostly from scratch -- which is what I have been doing in RM for past 18 months. Now I have naming structure for all media and its all manually attached to facts etc. One of my next big projects will be to rebuilt all Sources/Citations.

Direct import is the recommended route.
Have you seen Importing From RootsMagic and Importing to Family Historian (scroll down for the RM details) ?

Direct import every time - GEDCOM leaves too much behind. FamilySearch ID is the only significant omission that I am aware of, but even that is fixable post-import (but presumably you are aware that FH does not sync with FamilySearch in the way that RM does).

Sorry, yes I should I have mentioned I am aware that FH does not sync with Family Search.
I guess I could write a script in RM and create a TAG/Fact before Direct Import (if I knew what tag to use).
There have been times when I have added branch very quickly using that Sharing Feature. In genera I am at the point where I prefer to add things manually to get them right (or as close to as possible at that moment in time).

Thank you -- will review those. I probably have discovered many (most?) of those so far exploring the differences between two (or trying to).

Quite right too - importing unverified data of unknown province is fraught with risk.

See this posting for how to recover the FamilySearch ID values after import. Scroll to the bottom of the thread, as it gives a useful way to manage the values in FH.

What I did in RM to prep before doing was to create a Custom Fact in RM.
The FactType ID was 1038. Then I did a query so each person that had an FS ID would now have a custom fact so it should import when I go back DIRECT IMPORT in FH. Techincally, I should have checked for duplicates but I know I should created sot there shouldn't be.
