Find My Past hints - 1921 census hints

Post by jelv » 16 Jan 2023 20:19

Is anyone seeing hints for the 1921 census?

If it is not implemented yet I'm wondering why not. Even without the top rate FMP subscription you can search it.

I do get a 1921 hint /very/ occasionally but most of the time they (a) are missed out (b) very obvious to find directly.

What I am also noticing quite a lot now on FH is
- I've got other records already entered in FH and sourced back to fmp (eg censuses). Sometimes they appear again in internet matches and sometimes they don't - so inconsistent.
- Very obvious match records aren't coming up in the internet search.
- the results for MyH miss even more.

So I'll look at the FH results to see if there is anything interesting but the feature is becoming less relevant to me as it currently stands - basically due to what is missed.

Thanks for that. I've not seen a single 1921 hint yet which made me wonder if it had been implemented.

I've done a bit of investigation.

I've uploaded a copy of my tree to FindMyPast. The hints on there include many for the 1921 census. looking at a hint with 100% match on FMP, if I go to the same person in Family Historian there's no hint.

That suggests to me that either the way FH is formulating the lookup, or the interface provided to FH by FMP is broken. I'm wondering if this should be reported as a bug to Calico Pie?

BTW: I've noticed that https://www.family-historian.co.uk/aidm doesn't say anything about right clicking a person and View Match Details... which gives this:

I contacted Calico Pie about this who replied:

So I did.
John Elvin wrote:I use Family Historian as my principle software for recording. Are the FMP hints in there supposed to be given for the 1921 census? I haven't seen any yet.

As a test I've uploaded a copy of my tree to FindMyPast. The hints on there include many for the 1921 census. Looking at a hints with 100% match on FMP, if I go to the same person in Family Historian there's no hint.

I've enquired about this with Calico Pie and they said they have no control and that I should contact you.
They replied today:
FindMyPast wrote:Hello John,

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that the 1921 census hints don't currently show within the Family Historian product at this time.

This was due to the pay per view nature of the recordset before the Premium subscription launched.

I have asked our tree team if there are any plans to change this now that there is a Premium subscription and will be back in touch when I hear back from them.

I hope this clears everything up.

Kind Regards,
If I get any more from them I'll post again.
