Wrong language used in DVD/Website Creation

Post by Gowermick » 29 Dec 2022 12:42

I have an intermiitent problem, whereby a website is created where Individual reports are shown in Kanji characters rather than English.

Homepage, Research Notes and the actual list of Individuals show alright, but clicking on an individual bring up a page of Kanji characters.

I tried examining an individual html file, but everything is in Kanji

The only fonts mentioned in the Lytebox.css are Verdana Helvetica and Sans Serif, but as I don't have Helvetica on my PC, could this be the problem? or Is this a bug for CP?

UPDATE: Just rebuilt it again, and problem has disappeared again. Consistent in its inconsistency :D

When it happens again please post a copy of part of the HTML file text.

I'd just like to check that it really is Kanji text that you are seeing and not some other character corruption.
How do you know it really is Kanjii?

It may not be 'Kanji', but definitely an oriental character set. I'll send a copy if it happens again.
But as luck would have it, it hasn't happened for the past four or five rebuilds

Mike,
I generated another website, and whilst using it, the text on individual sheets displayed normally, but then suddenly started displaying in 'kanji'. The invidual shows correctly in one tree, but Kanji in the new one tree. I have attached the dodgy one for you to view

NBI tried attaching the both HTML files, but one was rejected as a possible threat, the other I had to changed extension to doc to get it attached. If you change extension back to HTML, it should load into a browser or whatever to use to examine it

Yes, that certainly looks very oriental but I have no idea how it happens.

All I can suggest is the usual fix-all technique of Restart PC (NOT Shut Down) and reinstall FH.

If the problem persists then see if CP can help.

I have reported it to CP (Ticket 580934) as I think it is a bug during creation of the website

When I examined the statistics for the two websites created for my grandsons,( which should be the same)
I found one (the good one) had 100 Pages, 5296 People and 1252 Picture
whereas the 'Kanji' one has 4 Pages, 5296 People and 1 picture

So something must have gone wrong during the creation process, which does seem a bit hit and miss.

For example, I included an Index and the Outstanding Research Notes in the list of contents for the home page. Sometimes the Index appeared, sometimes not, When it didn't, changing the order in the contents page and remaking the website, made it re-appear, which indicates to me that something is not quite right with the process.
