* Saving Marker Sets

For Wish List Requests that have either (a) been progressed to the Wish List; or (b) been classified as duplicates, or as redundant because the requirement is already satisfied within FH and/or plugins; or (c) closed because it wasn't possible to arrive at a clear specification of the request within 15 months of it being raised.

Saving Marker Sets

Post by evinther »

Hello

I have only recently discovered the usefulness of the Mapping feature and I use it increasingly. I use many different marker sets for different purposes, but it is frustrating to me, that I cannot save the mark sets, but must start all over when I have to use a particular map and set again. I realize the I can save the map with markers as a jpg, but often I need to make some additions or modifications to a marker set, so it would be convenient and time saving if the marker sets could be saved.

Regards
Erik

I agree, it seems pointless to be able to create marker sets, then not have the ability to save these new creations. To restrict the newly created marker sets to the current session is pointless. Presumably these marker sets are stored somewhere to be able to use them during the session, so why not give the user the ability to store them permanently - doesn’t make sense to me.

I raised this as a bug at the same time the topic was posted.
CP said they would look into it.
I agree, the options on that dialogue are useless otherwise

Not using marker sets, I'm unable to judge whether this is as simple a request as it seems. Is there anything that needs to be added/considered before it's added to the Wish List.

Nothing that springs to mind. Storing marker sets in external files would be fine with me.

The only consideration I can think of is whether there should be both global sets and Project-local sets, with the ability to change from one to the other, similar to Fact Sets.

Project Level Marker sets - specific to people in the Project
Application Level Marker sets - general markers (e.g. locations of Country Record Offices, churches, cemeteries etc.) that research notes in any project may refer to?
