Upgrade

Post by Johnwrosser » 12 Nov 2022 13:21

Apparently there is a new upgrade but on trying to download it, it takes ages and doesn't seem to ever finish. I guess I'll have to go without it?

Well that's one option I guess, but another would be to contact Calico Pie support and ask for help.

John, are you downloading from https://www.family-historian.co.uk/install7 by clicking the Download "Family Historian 7" green button?
That works better than using the FH Help > Check For Updates... command.

What version of Windows are you running? There are known problems with Windows 7 and 8 which mean that using https://www.family-historian.co.uk/install7 as already suggested by Mike Tate is your best option.

I believe this is also Johnr65 who had issues with logging in and created a new FHUG login, and in one of his posts earlier in the year stated he'd bought a new computer, so I assume Windows 7/8 isn't the issue here.

I often find when downloading FH updates that they get to about 97-98% completed, and the progress then seems to pause for some time. It may be worth just giving it a bit longer to see if it completes.

Yes I am the one who bought a new pc in April which runs Win 10 and can run 11 but I'll leave that for now on 10.
Strangely I endeavored to download the new upgrade to 7.0.17.1 from the FH Site but it isn't possible, however from my program it worked instantly this time! So now I have it fully updated but can't see any difference?

John,
The link given by Helen to the FH website has a big Green Download button, this is always the latest version, so clicking it would download 7.0.17.1 and would update a current v7 install.

The changes in each new version of 7 are detailed at V7 updates.

John, it would help us understand your problem if you could explain why "the new upgrade to 7.0.17.1 from the FH Site isn't possible". Just saying it is not possible does not help. What is not possible? You cannot find the Download button? The download did not occur. When you run the downloaded EXE file it did not install? What is not possible?

You say cannot see any difference. Well, most improvements don't leap out of the screen do they?
See https://www.family-historian.co.uk/v7-updates that lists all the updates.

Mike,
I couldn't find a download button the FH site only a read me. However it doesn't matter now as I've downloaded it through my program, hoping that it doesn't mess it up like the last one did!

John, out of interest, was this the page you went to when you followed the link https://www.family-historian.co.uk/install7 that Tatewise provided?
