* Upgrading FH6 to 7
Upgrading FH6 to 7
I have just bought a new PC and therefore need to re-install FH and the projects that I was researching. As I was previously running FH6 (fully up to date), can I skip the need to re-install and simply download the latest version of the program and then use my latest backups to open the various trees that I had in my previous project window? Thanks very much.
Re: Upgrading FH6 to 7
If you're asking if you can upgrade to V7 for free, then the answer is no. You'll have to buy V7 and install that, or stick with what you have.

Re: Upgrading FH6 to 7
Hi sorry for any confusion but no I wasn't asking about a free upgrade (did my post mention the word free??), all i want to know is can I skip re-installing FH6 and go straight to purchasing FH7 and then use my backups to open my existing projects? Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Upgrading FH6 to 7
It is recommended that you migrate from old PC to new PC using the current FH version you are familiar with.
Then it is easier to check that the migration has been completed successfully.
After that you can upgrade to FH V7. Note that the installation process for FH V7 is very different from previous versions.
Also, the format of GEDCOM and customisation files have changed in FH V7.
As part of the migration, it is important to transfer all your custom settings for Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Facts Sets, etc...
That works best if the old PC and new PC are running the same FH version, otherwise there are pitfalls.
See the FHUG Knowledge Base Family Historian Copy and Migration Guide. Also don't forget AS if you use that.
If you have any questions then ask again before proceeding.
