LOOKUP MISSING CENSUS FACTS

Post by David Potter » 13 Oct 2022 11:21

@Mike Tate

Hi Mike does the current version 4.6 of this Plug-in include the search for potential 1921 UK Census records?

Thank you

Yes, it tries to but I had to guess the URL search parameter format because I have not paid to view the 1921 Census.
Try the plugin and see if it produces reasonable search results.
If you can perform a 1921 Census manual search and post the URL then I can update the plugin.

Mike,

Is this what you need? - It brings up the search page: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/1921-census

Hi Mike sorry my first opportunity to reply. I ran the Plugin but it doesn't suggest any 1921 census results for quite a large group of individuals. I see you now have the link. Please let me know if I can help further.

Thank you.

David, please be more specific about what it does not suggest.
Have you read the Help & Advice pages for the Plugin at https://pluginstore.family-historian.co ... nsus-facts ?
They explain the Result Set and the Lookup Web Page that offers findmypast.co.uk hyperlinks to perform the search.
The searches seem to work for me (I've realised that searching works even without a subscription).
Of course, the Individuals have to be alive in 1921 for a findmypast.co.uk hyperlink to be generated.

Hi Mike
Yes I have read the Help & Advice pages. Attached is a screenshot of the settings I have used. The second screenshot shows the result which does show hits for 1921 but no hyperlink.
I setup to search three services: Ancestry.co.uk, Findmypast.co.uk and Familysearch.org. Using a sort on Census Year column it initially looked like no results were found. But what I actually see is results but no useable Hyperlink. Clearly the result is useful but it would mean stepping outside of the result set to make a search each time without the Hyperlink being available. Is that a Subscription issue?

Thank you.

Just to say i changed the last test to service FMP only, the screen shot therefore only shows the FMP results.

Sorry guys. My mistake. I have been using my development version and not the Plugin Store V4.6
It has been a long busy day!
The attached V4.6.1 should work for Census 1921.

Thanks Mike now works a treat you're a star. I notice that the 1951 census has disappeared but as i would be 109 I'm not bothered about that.

Mike, the Plugin never included the 1951 UK Census because it won't be available until 2052.
The Plugin only identifies Census records that are likely to be available now, particularly those that are online somewhere.
That is why it says U. K. Census Records 1790 - 1939 ...

Mike (Tate), If you look at the screenshot from Mike Davies' earlier post you'll see that at line 5 it says 8 April 1951. That has disappeared in the new screenshot. I think that is what he is referring to.

Ah! Did not spot that.
It is a bug that crept into V4.6 that is fixed in V4.6.1 but only appears for some user options. I'd forgotten about that.

I've reviewed the Plugin against each of the websites and found their URL have changed and needed updating.
The old URL may have continued to work but possibly some search filters might have been misunderstood.
There are also several new Census records online that I've added including a whole new set for Denmark.
When the Help pages get updated there will be a comprehensive list of all the Census records involved.

Please try the Lookup Missing Census Facts Plugin Version 4.6.2 Date 20 Oct 2022.

Le me know if there are any problems.

Have the 20+ people who have downloaded this plugin found any issues that need fixing before I publish in the Plugin Store?

Have used it sporadically over the last two days. I can't claim more than six or seven uses (with connection to Ancestry.com), but encountered no problems — other than with census takers who can find six ways to spell "Madeleine" and who probably couldn't cope with "Rishi Sunak" at all.

It's a wonderful tool!
