Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time.
At present, I select a fact (Facts or All tab) > Add citation > Cite existing Source
From here I cannot find a way to select more than 1 source. Shift or Ctrl with click or scroll just selects 1 Source.

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
No, that is not possible, because what you are actually adding is Citations that hold the links to the Source records.
That is why the button in the Sources For pane is labelled Add Citation.
The Source Citation details are shown in the Citation Window that appears.
It is not feasible to show multiple Citation Windows to display the multiple Source Citations that selecting multiple Source records would require.

Mike, thanks for the explanation, and that might be why it is not "permitted", but I was hoping that for simple "sources" I could add more than 1 at once.

I guess that by simple "sources" you mean where the Citation simply links to the Source record with no other field values.
But how would FH know that you only wanted to add simple "sources"?

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
Mike, yes, I accept the limitations would have to be for simple "sources", but even then I suspect one could revisit the source with a single click to add extra detail (Where Within etc - apologies if I have got this bit wrong as I use many individual Sources rather than Citation-specific within a Source).
I might create an AutoHotkey for any regular combinations, for me it is mostly the 3 BMDs for UKBMD + UK GRO BMDs.
I already have AutoHotkeys to go directly to Source selection after a fact is selected, I would have to try to expand that:

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
I am a splitter of sources and I do not enter any Citation-specific details. I use regularly the 'Copy Citation' and 'Paste Citation' buttons at the bottom of the Citation List Pane.
At times, I have wished that I could copy more than one citation at a time!

Jean, that is potentially more easily implemented by allowing the selection of more than one Citation before using the 'Copy Citation to Source Clipboard' button. The snag is that multiple Citation selection does not work for any of the other toolbar buttons!

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
If I understand you correctly, this can be done via the All tab on an Individual. For instance, if I were to have a residence event with several sources cited against it, and wanted to set up an occupation event with the same several sources cited against it, then I'd go to the All tab, find the relevant residence event, click the +sign on the event to expand it, select each "Source" in turn (holding down the control key to set up a multiple selection), and then Ctrl/C to put them all on the clipboard.
Then select the (unsourced) occupation, right click it and paste.
Copying from a Family event onto an Indovidual (or vice versa) is more complicated because you have to open up the Family Event to get at the Sources to copy.

Mike: Apologies, I'm missing something. I don't understand 'by allowing the selection of more than one Citation before using the 'Copy Citation to Source Clipboard' button'. How do I select more than one?
Adrian: Well I never thought of trying that. And I do often 'visit' the All tab. Thank you.

Jean, that is why I said "potentially". It is not possible now but CP could "potentially" implement it.
Adrian, that is a brilliant technique. I'd have never thought of it.

Aah, Thank you Mike. I didn't give enough thought to the word 'potentially'; I thought I was missing something that should have been obvious to me!
It's not very often that I have wanted to copy several Citations. It will have been when I was working in the 'dark recesses' of my project, on 'parts' that hadn't been looked at in a very long time (several decades).

Hmmm...I was able to right-click and copy, but where do I right-click to paste? I've tried pretty much everywhere, and nothing works.
Thanks

In the All tab, right-click the Fact you want to add the Citations to and choose Paste at the top.
OR
If you are more keyboard biased, then on the All tab you can avoid the right-click:
Select the multiple Source Citations and hit Ctrl/C.
Select the Fact and hit Ctrl/V.

In the "all" tab you select the "new parent" of the items to be pasted. So, for instance, to paste in a "Census" fact you select the name line under which you want the census fact to appear.

Oh, I get it know - I didn't clue I needed to STAY in the All tab.
Thanks

Thanks, Mike - I moved out of the All tab...and good to know the keyboard hotkeys work - I prefer them and use them all the time.

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
And another little gem for the ALL tab. That goes say 1/4 way to my question, perhaps set up a dummy individual with regular combinations like I mentioned above.
I note that this technique also works for other fields like Date, Place etc.
Another trick for the All Tab which I could not find documented (I was advised by support) was to expand all items;
- ensure only the Individual Name is displayed (double click to collapse any existing tree display)
- select the individual,
- Alt + double click.

Jim, I don't know why support mentioned the Alt key.
On the All tab, simply double-left-click the top line, and the data will alternately be collapsed and expanded.
Maybe they were mixing it up with the Records Window.
There you select a record name, then hold down Alt key while using double-left-click to alternately collapse and expand.
That depends on the Tools > Preferences > Records Window setting for the Double-click on record in Record List does default record action option and the Help explains how the Alt key alters the action.

Yes, sorry for any confusion, I usually use the Alt (it works with or without) because with my settings one needs the Alt to do similar on the Records Window.
