Setting Custom Colors
I am running FH 7 on Windows 10 21H2.
I am trying to customize a few colors in the Focus Window and Property Box.
It seems that FH does not want to cooporate.
When I select the new color using the color picker window, the new color will migrate to the list of items on the left. But when I select "OK" and return to the Preferences window, the "Apply" button in greyed out, thus no changes are made.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Thank you

Re: Setting Custom Colors
To be honest, I don't recall that Apply button ever being greyed out.
When adjusting the Focus Window > Colours... , as soon as you << Select a colour for an item, it is immediately shown in the Focus Window displayed behind the Preferences window.
The first two things we usually advise with such abnormalities are:

The first two things we usually advise with such abnormalities are:
- Restart your PC. Not Shut down or any other Power mode, but Restart that bypasses the Windows 10 Quick Start that has habit of retaining 'glitches'.
- Reinstall FH V7 over the existing installation.

Mike,
Thanks for the input.
Yes, in all other instances I never saw the Apply button greyed out. But it was in this particular situation.
I'll try your suggestions and give feedback.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Well, nothing worked.
I did a "Restart". That didn't make a difference.
I did a complete FH uninstall/reinstall.
I created a completely new project with no gedcom.
The "Apply" button still greyed out and unable to change any colors.
I recreated the Sample project.
Again, the Apply button is greyed out, and colors cannot be changed.
I am wondering if the issue might be in Windows 10 and not FH?

Re: Setting Custom Colors
As Mike has said, as soon as you << Select a colour for an item, it is immediately shown in the Focus Window displayed behind the Preferences window. So it has been 'applied' immediately. Is that not happening in your case?
When you then return to the Focus tab of the Preferences window the 'Apply' button is indeed greyed out because the new colour should already have been applied. You then just need to click OK in the Preferences window to make the change permanent.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Lorna, have you ever actually seen the Apply button greyed out in any circumstances? I have not.
In the scenario you describe the Apply button is not greyed out for me.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
I have the same result as Lorna. When I close the Color picking window the Apply button is grayed out.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Yes, in this scenario the Apply button is greyed out. This makes sense because the colour has already been 'applied' when it was selected in the colour selector window. In fact I now realise that it is not even necessary to click the final OK in the Preferences window.
(Edit: Thanks Bill for confirming that you see the same)

Re: Setting Custom Colors
After choosing the color I want, I have to click on the << Select button before clicking the OK button.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Mike,
Up to now, I've never played with colours, so thought I'd give it a try.
I must say, the colours dialogue is not the most intuitive screen.
1. Select Item you wish to change colour
2. Select chosen colour from Basic Colours, nothing happens other than colour is highlighted.
3, Press <<Select button, and selected colour appears in Colour: box, AND Colour change is immediately applied to selected item
No further button presses are needed, and even Cancel button does nothing with regards to the colours
Apply button is greyed out throughout!
Some of the names of the items need clarifying though as far as the property box is concerned, with no Help available
i.e What are the Active Tab and Inactive Tab ? as they seem to do nothing when colours are changed
Other items seem ok such as Tab Active Fill and Tab Inactive Fill, which colour the tabs as one would expect.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
The Cancel button does work. If you select a colour by clicking << the change takes immediate effect but if you click the Cancel button before exiting the colour selector the new colour is cancelled and it reverts to the original colour.
(Or did you mean the Cancel button in the Preferences dialog? I agree that doesn't have any effect once the colour has been selected.)

Ok, something must be unusual with my installation.
I never get the Apply button greyed out in that scenario or any other.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
This does seem strange Mike. As the others have said, the 'Apply' button is always greyed out (and plays no part in colour selection), unless I change a setting on one of the tabs. So when you click on the Toolsmenu and then Preferences and the Preferences dialogue appears, your Apply button isn't greyed out? I wonder if that suggests you have a setting which the properties page is automatically changing as soon it loads up? If you click Apply and then close the dialogue does it do the same next time?

Re: Setting Custom Colors
I've discovered the two different behaviours.
1) Use Tools > Preferences... and then Focus Window and the Apply button is greyed out.
2) In the Focus Window click Customize View... and the Apply button is enabled.
i.e. Two ways of opening the same Tools > Preferences > Focus Window tab with different Apply button status
