In my template there's a place for Reference information - WHERE in AS do I enter that?
In the Reference ID box (Ref Id).

Hi Nick,
No Major problems so far (7.3.1).
One minor one. When entering a baptism.
Finish entering a baptism and save, the retain data window pops up, click cancel and the data is cleared from AS. But the Ref ID remains populated.
[EDIT] The Other Info field also remains populated.

I agree. I thought it was only me and I have changed something in the options.
Even though Ref Id & Other Info are unticked, the fields are being populated automatically for the next entry. This even happens when changing to a different type - i.e. Baptism to Marriage.

OK I'll have a look at this. I did make a change in this area to fix an issue that had been reported, but it sounds like it may have had an unintended consequence!

Thanks

Ok - THIS is where I get stuck. In my template there's a place for Reference information - WHERE in AS do I enter that? I've filled out all the other necessary information, but can't see a corresponding box for Reference, other than possibly the Other Info field on the Further Info tab, for, in this case a baptism. Again, I'm sure it's blindingly obvious and I'm just missing it after a full day of work. Thanks again to anyone who can explain to me where I've gone wrong...WheretoputsourceinfoinASTemplate.jpg
Can anyone help with this?

As Nick said, it's in the Reference ID box (Ref Id). What he didn't mention is that in the case of a baptism, which you are looking at, the Ref ID box is on the Further Info tab, just above the Other Info box you mentioned.

Thanks, Nick and Lorna - and if I missed Nick's first response, I apologize - I was sure I'd looked at every post, but it's early over here in Canada... I figured that had to be it, but wanted to be sure before I started adding a whole lot of baptisms.

Thanks again for all your help!

I've now released test version 7.3.2 having hopefully fixed the issue with retention of the reference id and other information text boxes reported by John and Richard earlier.

Nick,

I tried entering several censuses and marriages and all looked good to me.

Thanks for the hard work and the new version.

Thanks Bill - if any one else has used it enough times to be reasonably confident it is working OK please would you mind posting here. I'm keen to release this properly ASAP.

The change seems to have fixed the problem. I have tried Baptisms, Marriages, Burials & Census with no problems.

Thank you

Nick

I literally have had no time to do anything till late this evening. But I've just managed to try my first Census on any of the versions. I'm now on (7.3.2)

I'm trying to recall, but I can't remember if that "Default" box appeared in the old version.

Thanks Colin - that's very well spotted. You presumably have selected the option to only show rich text templates and have also customised the default template and chosen the option to not show the built in templates if there is a custom one with the same name. The routine that counts how many templates would be shown before deciding whether to show the pop-up menu wasn't taking into account the option to hide built in templates. That will be fixed in the next version.

I've managed to input about a dozen census entries for different countries and not spotted any issues. Haven't had time to look at others.

No problems at all in entering a variety of 1921 censuses with 7.3.3. All seems to work extremely well.

One issue that I've noticed before (not a new one I think) is that after accepting the AS message "The GEDCOM family history file has been changed ...", AS unexpectedly loses the focus and FH comes to the front. Is there a way of restoring the AS window automatically at this point?

As a side question, do you have a preferred place, Nick, where you'd like users to let you know of bugs and suggestions? I couldn't see anything in the documentation. Is there an issues register that users could contribute to, on Github or somewhere?

Hi Michael

The AS Help on the Introduction/Read this First page does suggest you should email me if you have any questions and suggestions but also refers to this forum as a good place to go. There are also links to email me and access the forum from the Help menu.

I'll look into the other issue and see if I can find a solution to it.

Best wishes

Nick, the AS7.2.7 to FH7.0.9 tables not moving over (20278) found a problem with Method 2 settings.
It seems that the default AS Tools > Options... setting for all Method 2 data is to save Source Text 'In shared note'.
The user may not notice that and so does not change it to 'In local citation text'.

In FH v7 the new Citation Window does not show Citation-specific linked shared Note records in the Notes tab.
The Citation Window can be customised on the Citation tab to show a linked Note using the SOUR.NOTE data ref.
However, without that, as illustrated in the thread above, for a relatively new user the linked Note appears to go missing.

Strangely, Citation Window Source Record linked shared Note records are shown in the Notes tab.

As you seem to have a closer relationship with CP than most, would a request to show Citation-specific linked Notes in the Citation Window on its Notes tab come best from you?
Hi Mike. In case you haven't spotted it, in the recent update to Family Historian (v7.0.10), citation shared/linked notes are now shown under the notes tab. Hopefully in future it may be possible to at least customise the citation tab to show a linked/shared note, but for now it's good that they are at least shown on the Notes tab. It was great to have Calico respond to this request so quickly.

Although it cannot show the shared Note record text, the Citation Window can be customized on its Citation pane to show the link to the Note record by using the Data Reference SOUR.NOTE
That allows a Note record to be selected, cleared, and opened via its right-hand cog menu.
