* Customising Individual Property Box

Hi Folks

I am also trying to customise a Property Box Tab but appear to have found something that I can't do.

What I am trying to create is a tab showing immediate relatives of the individual.

e.g. Father, Mother, Sibling 1, Sibling 2... Child 1, Child 2...

I've tried %INDI.FAMC[1]>HUSB[1]>NAME[1]% and %INDI.~FATH[1]>NAME[1]% but FH won't accept these because:

'This data reference contains one or more links to other records. These are not permitted in this context'

Does anyone know what syntax might work?

Dave, there is no syntax that will work because Property Box custom tabs and fields can only refer to the current record and cannot link to any other records whatsoever. The only subtle exception is that an Individual Property Box can refer to the Individual record and the Spouse record I think.

Other possible approaches: The information you want to include is visible in the focus window already, or you could use the Quick Family Facts plugin.

If you can explain in more detail what you want/why, we may be able to suggest other alternatives.

Many thanks for your responses.

Why am I trying to re-invent the wheel? - Focus View does it all.

My wife dislikes Focus View and never uses it - and that's from when we first started with FH (v2 I think).
She works solely in the Records Window and the Properties Box.

So I thought that if I could create a tab in Properties that would, to some extent, replicate the Focus View, it would be of help to her.

It seems a bit odd to want to list those relatives and not like the Focus Window that shows them!
( BTW: I think Focus Window was added in FH v4. )

Try the Quick Family Facts plugin as suggested by Helen.

The only other option is to add columns to the Records Window for each of those relatives.
However, that gets a bit complex with parents, siblings, multiple spouses and several children each.

I think she will continue as she has always done - I saw the 'Associations' tab example and it just occurred to me that it would be possible to create what I wanted.

It works for Associations because the link to the associated Individual record is in the current Individual record.
Such a link is automatically given the name of the other record.
However, it is not possible to extract details from that associated Individual record such as their Birth/Death data.

To reach family members, the Family as child record must be navigated to reach the HUSB, WIFE & CHIL links to those Individual records, and it is that remote record access that is not supported.
