Source Title formatting
Hi,
I am trying to format my Source Titles to match the "Strathclyde" version of the Harvard citation layout. This uses "SURNAME, Given Name", and uses long Month names in dates.
I have cloned the Church Register source template and customised the title layout, and have edited the AS "Principal" to be {KEYPERSON.SN_GN.CAPS} and the "Date" to {DATE.DAY} {DATE.MONTH.FULL} {DATE.YEAR}.
I have tested this on a Baptism entry, and although the title is showing in the sequence I want, the Name and Date formats are not being applied.
How do I get these formats to apply to the source title?

As usual, without our crystal ball, it is difficult to answer without specific details.
A screenshot of where you have applied the template and a screenshot of the title with the wrong format will help.
Also, a detailed explanation of what is wrong will help too.
I wonder if there may be some confusion between AS templates and FH templates?

Re: Source Title formatting
Attached is a screenshot of my AS Source Template Editor Screen - showing how I have tried to edit the Name and Date fields. However, I note that the "AS Source Template:" entry says Essentials: Church Records : Church Register. Which is an FH template from the essentials collection.
So, are you saying that, even though the AS Source Template Editor Screen says this is the AS Source Template, it actually isn't one the Source Editor can edit?
If it is not then how can I edit the FH template to show full Month for the date and SURNAME Given Name for name as per the typical "Strathclyde" source citation below.

Re: Source Title formatting
I don't use templated sources, but have you edited the source titles for each type of source in the individual source setting pages for each type of source being created? e.g. from AS menus>Tools>Options and edit the source title options templates for census, birth, baptism, marriage etc. as required. Does that still work for templates sources?

Re: Source Title formatting
That AS template is defining how to populate the FH Meta-Fields with AS values.
i.e. Set the SOURCETYPE as the Event Type; set the KEYPERSON as the Principal; set the DATE as the Date; etc...
It is not defining how those Meta-Fields appear in the Source Title. That is the job of the FH Source Template in its Record Title Format template along with the Bibliography Format and Footnote Format templates.
So you need to study the FH Help page Source Template Formats.
e.g.
<caps>{Principal:SURNAME}</caps> gives a capitalised surname
{Date:LONG} does not work so {%SOUR.~DT-DATE:LONG%} gives a long format date, i.e. with month name in full
@RS3100: I suspect the AS Tools > Options > Source Title templates only work for Generic Sources unless it somehow overrides the FH Source Template ~ Record Title Format template.

Re: Source Title formatting
The next version (coming soon) has a new option which I've been able to add thanks to a feature that Calico added to Family Historian at my request. If the option is set, Ancestral Sources will not generate a title for the source and Family Historian will create the title instead when it loads the file following the creation of the source by AS. It is likely that this will help you to achieve what you are aiming for.
Ancestral Sources does allow some quite sophisticated title logic as most of the Autotext functions will work with titles too, but it doesn't currently allow you to reference the source template fields. I think it probably should allow this and I'll add that feature in the future.

Re: Source Title formatting
Nick, in this case, since Little.auk is using an FH Source Template isn't it best to let its Record Title Format template define the Source Title automatically, regardless of any new features?

Re: Source Title formatting
Not So Mike!
I have found the right place to do it in AS >Tools > Options > Choose Section: Baptisms Settings - Method 1, as per the attached jpeg.
At the moment most of my baptism records come from Nottinghamshire Family History Society transcriptions database, so I have put in the source, collection and URL in plain text as below. (it's going to be good for at least 20 to 30 entries!).
{SOURCETYPE} (PR), {PLACE}, ({ADDR}), {DATE.DAY} {DATE.MONTH.FULL} {DATE.YEAR}, {KEYPERSON.SN_GN.CAPS}, Source: NFHS Parish Records Transcriptions Database. Collection: Baptisms Database version - 8.2 version date 01 September 2015., https://nottsfhs.org.
I have saved this in a text file so that I can cut and paste for marriages and Burials, or edit, cut and paste for different sources.

Re: Source Title formatting
OK, that is an alternative, which is effectively overriding the FH Record Title Format template.
It does not have all the same features such as style for italics and bold, but you may not need them.
Do you also have no need for the Bibliography and Footnote templates?

Re: Source Title formatting
But that wasn't possible before. If AS didn't add a title then FH wouldn't add one unless you went into the source and modified it. This was an issue the other way too: if the user wanted to use the AS title, FH would replace it if they ever made a change to the source. The new version of AS has options to allow FH to generate the title or to fix the AS one.
