This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
Each week I get two identical copies of this email, sent about 5 minutes apart. They are to the same email address.
Why?

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I can not see anything obvious in the routine as it simply loops all the accounts which have requested emails and sends them via Amazon SES. It is set up as a Cron job which runs at 8:08 on a Wednesday morning.
I have added some debugging so I can check the run next week.

Thanks Jane.
I'm wondering if somehow I ended up with two accounts with the same email address? It's a long shot as I would have thought that the forum software wouldn't allow two accounts with the same email (unique on the table column?).
Is that something you could easily check by looking in the forum's users table (can you see my email address)?
If not I could:

If not I could:
- Change my email
- Use forgotten password with the old email address
- If that comes back with a different account check if it is also set to receive the emails

You don't appear to have the same email in the list twice, I already checked that. It may be a problem with the routine which sends the mail. If you can leave everything along for now and I will check the logs on next weeks run.

I don't think you can use forgotten password with an email address unless you used it as your username.
e.g. Your current account username is jelv not your email address.
Is it possible that a different old email address is involved but that is being automatically redirected to your current email?

I get the email twice sometimes, and that's definitely not the case, Mike. I don't have two accounts or any mail redirections in place.

The forgotten password page specifically asks for the email address not user name:
No, the first thing I checked was to look at the headers of the message source.

Interesting! It's only started happening in the last few months - is that the same for you? Are your message about 5 minutes apart? Mine were timed at 08:10:28 and 08:15:17.ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑30 Dec 2021 10:46 I get the email twice sometimes, and that's definitely not the case, Mike. If anyone else is seeing two copies sometimes it would be helpful if they posted "me too".

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
John, to get to the Send Password page haven't you got to enter a username first?
So entering jelv will only let you use the Email address already associated with the account jelv.

Here's the relevant part of the two headers (with my email hidden):
Note that the messages came from two different Amazon servers - the X-SES-Outgoing header ends with the servers IP, 54.240.48.89 and 54.240.48.97 which suggests the email was sent to Amazon twice.

Yes, 5 minutes apart and only in the last few months. I don't have the emails any more so can't confirm the different server IDs.

I can't remember if I've occasionally had duplicate copies in the past, but I definitely did yesterday.
Like Helen, I no longer have them to check the full headers, but I've confirmed from the email server logs at my end that two copies went through at 8:09:08 and 8:14:08.

I receive 2 copies as well. Just 5 minutes apart. I can't recall if it happens each week or just sometimes, but certainly received 2 this week.

I too have been receiving two copies in recent months. Today however I have received just the one copy - thanks.

Just the one copy here today as well.

I also received 2 copies last week and occasionally over the past few months. Just the one copy received today.

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I have been receiving two postings, 5 minutes apart, for several months. Today is the first time that it has been only one posting. Looks like whatever was the problem has gone away for now.
Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I think the big question here is not why was it happening, but why did none of us say anything for so long!

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
Only one for me this week.
Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I've been receiving two copies for quite a while.
Having said that, I changed my email account for FHUG a week ago, and I have only received one copy this week (so far!)

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
For a long time I have been receiving two copies of the weekly summary email. Today they were 8 minutes apart. I checked my profile and both of the messages’ “to” addresses and they are the correct address for me. After all this time (years?) today was the day I chose to investigate and I find I am not the only one.
Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I also have occasionally been receiving two copies of the weekly summary email. I received two this week.
What I have now done to see if it makes a difference is to unsubscribe from the weekly list, wait a few days and then subscribe again to the list. Not scientific and will obviously take time to confirm if it helps or not, but worth the attempt.
I will post with an update as to if it has helped or not.

Me too, I usually delete the second one, but going back thro my mailbox I missed one which was in September last year so it's been going on for some time.

Me too, each week, but I'm relatively new to receiving emails so it hasn't been happening long.

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I don't think there is anything Jane (Admin) can do about it as it's beyond her control. This is what she wrote last month in another thread Weekly email of forum topics (20695) about the same problem:
