* How to change the TYPE field in Source record

I’m a new user to FH and am updating my Roots Magic import to use the added functionality of FH7.

How the heck can I edit the type field (birth, census, etc.) on the Source record? There must be either some super-secret or blindingly obvious path to get there, because I just can’t seem to find it.

Hi Rich. Open the Source record Property Box and edit its Generic Type: field box shown below.

Maybe it can't be done on a source created from a free-form template?

Under the Main tab, I get:

I just tried some others created from template and none of them allow me to enter the field. Since I imported from Roots Magic all of my sources have a template listed.

If you are using Templated Sources the benefits of the Generic Type field are somewhat reduced.
The associated Source Template effectively determines the type of Source record.

However, it is possible to manipulate the Generic Type field.
Firstly, the All tab of the Property Box, as shown in the screenshots, allows right-click Add Generic Type.
Secondly, you can use the cog Menu > Customize Property Box... command, select Tab: Main (template), and add Generic Type from the left so it appears in the Main tab of the Property Box just like Generic Sources.

Neither the Publication nor Generic Type fields are populated on an import from RM, as these fields do not exist in RM sources (which are all templated, even the Free Form source type), and RM makes no attempt to synthesize values in its GEDCOM export.

The route to "All" that Mike described is a good general method to get at all the fields available for a record. What is displayed is just Calico Pie's assessment of which are the most important fields, tweaked with your own customisations. On the whole, they make sensible decisions on what to show, but FH is wonderfully flexible, enabling you to set up the display in a way that makes most sense to you.

Conversely, if you don’t need the Publication or Generic Type fields, you can customise the Records Window not to display them (right click on a column heading).
